2004 NISSAN ALTIMA with 92000.0 miles

For the 2nd time car running very rough and stalling. Had it serviced seems the spark plugs were destroyed and not functioning. Paid over $500 for mechanic to put in new plugs now it happened again. Seems there is a voluntary service campaign qr25de power valve. Campaign id P5202. A bolt from manifold is falling into cylinder and blowing out spark plug and causing internal engine damage, my mechanic put camera in cylinder. Car is running but it has already happened to cylinder 1 and 4. Next time my 22 year old daughter may not be so lucky on her highway commute. Hopefully the local Nissan dealer can rectify problem before the problem becomes more serious. The engine light came on that says to service engine soon, it is still on...From what i have found online sounds like power valve screws are coming out and creating engine damage.

2004 NISSAN ALTIMA with 102436. miles

On 7/29/2013, my 2004 Altima was losing power, feeling like it was going to stall on a major highway heading towards work. The issue was doing the same on the way home and the check engine light came on. The next day i took car into a local repair shop. The mechanic ran a test and it said i had a misfire on number 4 spark plug. He pulled out the plug and gap was pushed together. All four spark plugs were replaced. The car ran fine until later that night and the same issue was happening again. Took back to local repair shop. He got the same reading, misfire in spark plug 4. He pulled out spark plug and the gap was pushed together. We looked up to see what could be causing this. We found other were having a issue of a screw can come loose from the power valve intake. He told me to take to dealership which i did on 8/4/2013. They did their own test and even scoop the engine and dealer found that there was a screw missing. They found the screw missing had come from the power valve intake in the power valve. Even found part of the plate has broken and entered the engine. I did some research and found there was a recall on such issue. Since i purchase the car in 2011, not sure if the previous owner had the issue taken care of. But since it happen i don't think they did. The recall campaign id number is P5202.

2004 NISSAN SENTRA with 60000.0 miles

Please refer to Nissan campaign i.D. # P5202. I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra se-r spec v. At the end of august my car developed stalling and then outright cylinder (1) failure. Spark plug was removed and found to be extremely pitted and ground strap was hammered closed. Replaced plug, vacuumed cylinder and car ran fine for two weeks. The same problem developed on the way to work and spark plugs were removed and a second cylinder was found to have identical symptoms. The private mechanic i use advised me that there was a recall on this engine (ref. Above). I then drove vehicle to the local Nissan dealer where they verified that the power valve was missing two of eight screws and this was the most probable cause of the cylinder failures. Filed claim with Nissan customer service and was informed by regional representative that my vin did not fall into the vin recall range and that they would not honor the recall on my engine. As such, none of the recall troubleshooting was performed on my engine. I feel that my expenses should be reimbursed and, if required, my engine replaced free of charge since i have already suffered from the failure described in the recall. I'm sure that the service life of the pistons, valves, cylinder walls, and engine head associated with the failed spark plugs has been substantially reduced due to the pounding they took from the steel power valve screws. I believe that Nissan knows that they have the identical problem with other vin 2.5 liter engines and are refusing to fix them because they don't want to accept corporate liability for a known defect in even more of their engines. I have written to carlos ghosen and given Nissan an opportunity to respond with no results to date. Please help me obtain the same rights and benefits of other Nissan owners who fell under the protection of recall campaign P5202. Thank you.

2004 NISSAN ALTIMA with 66004.0 miles

2004 Nissan Altima 2.5 had severe missing issue and dealer advised that it was an issue with the screws of the power ring on the intake manifold. The screw had came loose and damaged the intake manifold. Nissan has voluntary service campaign qr25de power valve ( P5202) for this issue. My car has the exact issue and the year and engine size is the same. The vin number of my car is within the posted vin's of this campaign - however they now say the "campaign" is vin specific, and you guessed it - my vin isn't on their list. $700.00 later the dealer won't pay, Nissan america refuses to honor the fix listed in their own campaign this is a known design flaw issue, same car, same engine size, within the vin numbers listed. No relief. They also replaced all the screws with "upgraded screws" and lock each screw. The internet is filled with this issue and others with no assistance. Please make this a recall !

Power valve screws in their 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5s. There is currently a recall on 2004 and 2005 Altimas with the 2.5s engine with vins starting with 1n4al11. The recall campaign id for this problem is P5202. However, the same problem affects the 2003 Altima with the 2.5s engine, but Nissan north america has not added the 2003 year model to the recall. Both the 2003s and the 2004s have the exact same engine and i am a case in point of someone experiencing the exact same issue. However, Nissan has of yet not stated whether they will add the 2003 to the recall campaign. I wanted to first let other 2003 Altima owners with the 2.5s engine become aware of this issue. Secondly don't pay to have the problem fixed, it needs to be reported to Nissan north america that the 2003 models are affected by this power valve screw issue. Here is the kicker: more than half the current value of the car. Please be sure and not let this happen to you. I have been on the phone with Nissan north america and my dealership. My dealership has been extremely honest with me and is working with me to get Nissan north america to add the 2003-year models to the recall campaign. If you have had a similar problem and had to pay for it, or if you are experiencing power loss, hearing engine rattle, unusual engine vibration, or hear a motorcycle engine type noise or muffler type sound coming from the engine, than you may be experiencing problems with the power valve. I hope this information saves someone out there both money and time. If you have already experienced this issue than please let me know. We are currently mounting evidence related to this issue in an attempt to make Nissan north america aware of the issue and add the 2003 model to the recall campaign as well as address the damage. If not we will need to file a class action lawsuit related to this issue.

2002 NISSAN ALTIMA with 84500.0 miles

On march 27,05 my Altima began to stutter while driving on the interstate very badly. I decided to return home to switch cars, and it began to stall while traveling at slower speeds (glad it did not stall while i was on the interstate). I took it to Nissan the next morning and they said that both of the screws backed out of one of the butterfly valve plates in the intake manifold and the plate itself and the screws had fallen into the engine, thus causing severe misfiring and banging into the spark plugs and destroying them and also scoring all the walls of the engine. Nissan said i would need to buy a new engine but i refused and towed it another Nissan dealer after talking to the service manager there and he said he might be able to help more. It has been sitting there ever since because i refuse to pay. The service tech said that all 8 of the screws holding the butterfly plates in were all loose. Many people have taken it upon themselves to apply the correct amount of loctite to the screws so they don't encounter the same problem. Nissan obviously takes the blame according to recall P5202 but it only applies to 04's and 05's even though it is the same engine with the same problem in the 02's and 03's. Please investigate this matter because if i had been crossing an intersection and the Altima had stalled oncoming traffic could have killed me. This is definitely not a small problem and Nissan needs to address it. I have taken some other steps already on my end to get Nissan to accept fault, but please for my sake and other owners sake this issue needs to be addressed. I have plenty of printouts of how common the problem is with other owners and can email to anyone that is interested. The same engine (qr25de) is in the 02 and up Nissan sentra spec-v so please check those complaints for similar issues since that is where most of the first complaints i have found came from.
    ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,

2002 NISSAN ALTIMA with 130000. miles

Catastrophic engine failure for Nissan Altima related to power valve/butterfly valve intake manifold design. Third generation Altima's qr25de 4-cylinder and vq35de 6-cylinder engines have unfortunately been affected by a recall related to the intake manifold and the power valves, also known as the butterfly valve. The technical service bulletin P5202 - does not mention all affected vehicles for production years w same design. This has left some owners affected by the problem with no recourse/remedy for what in some cases has amounted to catastrophic engine failure. The power valve is a series of four plates in the qr25de 4-cylinder and 6 plates in the vq35de 6-cylinder engines, one per cylinder. The plates open and close simultaneously to allow more air into the combustion chamber for increased power. Each plate is held in place by two screws. The screws have been known to come loose as well as the plates and are then ingested into the engine via the intake ports. Problem is initially exhibited by ses(service engine soon) light coming on and/or blinking. Upon obd meter reading, code will be P0304, or similar which is random cylinder misfire or cylinder 4 misfire. Electrode on spark plug has been bent closed as a result of the power valve retaining screw vibrating loose and being ingested into the engine. The screw then bounces around in the combustion chamber, hitting the spark plug and bending the electrode shut, preventing spark in that cylinder. Additionally, the screw(s) and part of the broken plates, in some cases have made their way through the engine and into the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter, thus causing the catalytic converter to prematurely disintegrate as well as become ingested into the engine. For some reason, Nissan north america has decided to not remedy all vehicles affected by this admitted flaw obviously, this could cause engine failure at the wrong place and the wrong time, resulting in serious bodily harm and/or fatality.

2002 NISSAN ALTIMA with 80000.0 miles

My car started stalling and got harder and harder to start. Premier Nissan (metairie, la) said a power valve screw came loose, fell into the engine, the engine was ruined, and i needed to buy a new engine. I googled the matter. Many others have complained about this for same make, model and year (2002). (there are lots of complaints of this happening in the 2003 model also.) and this was exactly the subject of a Nissan recall campaign for the 2004 and 2005 Altimas (Nissan #: P5202; ntb05-058b).
