The incident date below was the fifth time this has occurred. First noticed traction control and power steering light coming on-the car "bucks" and power steering is lost-several times car will lose power and have to be restart. After restart warning lights will go away and power steering returns. Seems to come back to normal after restart, runs ok until the process starts again. The car was purchased may 08 and first incident was aug 15 2008-took to dealer and they reset the computer, second and third time the car seemed ok until the 4th incident and returned to dealer again and reset again. I was told that the computer codes were showing U2105 and U2100 U2107 and car returned. This last incident (12-11-08) the car was doing the same thing and drove right to dealer to show service what the car was doing. They claimed the car is equipped with electric steering column and it disengages from the computer and the steering column needed to be replaced and a computer module. Gave them permission to correct this because i can't let my son drive a car knowing at anytime he will lose power steering. He has been lucky he was traveling at low speeds when this occurs. If he was on a highway and in front of a tractor trailer and lost power he might be killed because he would lose ps and stall. This is a safety-related defect in the vehicle equipment (electric power steering column) when at any time with no warning you can lose your steering, stall and/or buck. Upon further research into the 2005 cobalt, i have found 805 complaints regarding the steering column and the problems of controlling the car when this happens. Upon further research the malibu is having the same issues with steering. Guess what kind of steering is in the malibu. Check "www.Aboutautomobile.Com" for complaints regarding steering column. Several people have described incidents where their safety was compromised. Please help gm rep claims can't recall column without you. Please help

2008 CHEVROLET COBALT with 43737.0 miles

My grandmother was driving and all of a sudden all her gauges went nuts and it started shifting hard. Took to dealership and codes read were U2105, U0073, they say they replaced terminals. One day later same thing happened so i took my code reader and it read U0073. We took it back told them about code and i told them to check terminals again and fuses. They call later and stated that the other computer went out, so grandmother paid another 400. Two days later its doing it again. I have a 04 impala that had the same issues mine was no start and chevy couldn't find problem it started fine for them, but after 2 days everything started breaking, and as a single mom w no money i had to research every code read and learned to fix it. I know every wire and which computer reads first, so chevy is going to have a rude awaking on monday. I believe chevy cant fix these computers and they just clear the codes and off u go until your car reprograms its self and same problems take effect, but i'm sure its due to another computer going out, at least that's what chevy would and will say!!!

4/26/20142006 Cobalt recall for ignition switch. At that time yellow abs, traction control and red brake system failure. Called local dealer said car safe to drive. 5/31/2014 to 6/3/2014 after dealer said brake warning and abs not related took to very local shop no tow, had brakes inspected, no leak pads and shoes ok. The shop found abs fuse blown. Codes in diagnostic U0121, U2105, U2106, U2108. Wires traced to short in ignition switch. Paid $106.95 for inspection. Car unable to be repaired due to parts on back order. 6/7/2014 call from gm car picked up by rogers towing 11am. Gm call was send to dealer no discussion of rental at this point. Car sent with recall papers/tuffy inspection and tech service bulletins and other recall info. Also 1 key and remote sent 6/7/2004 call from dealer approx. 1pm, they haven??T looked at car, but apparently read report. Service manager stated didn??T really consider the tuffy report was a valid report and the see this all the time with recalls. Told me that again the fuses blowing are not related. Explained again, this warning light issue was not happening prior to incident #1. Stated only issue with key was for the detent. Dealer will work on securing rental. 6/13/2014 contacted us senator about delay, 4 hours later car was ready, put new fuses in abs and traction control worked for a week, lights come on and off randomly while driving, car stalls occasionally and 7/19/2014 started today ignition key is extremely hot when removed from lock cylinder after 4 to 10 minutes of driving, advised daughter to bring to place of purchase determine what else is going on.

(1) on or about 10/27/06, alarm system deactivated itself, interior and exterior lights turned on, doors remained locked. (2) on 11/01/06, alarm system activated itself, doors locked themselves. (3) on 11/27/06, vehicle shuttered and went into 'limp' mode which may have caused damage to the transmission. Onstar and dealer retrieved the following error codes: (i) P1626 - theft deterrent fuel enable signal lost, (ii) C0276 - traction control not allowed (tcm / abs), (iii) U0100 - lost communications with transmission control module (tcm), (iv) U2105 - lost communication with engine control module (ecm). Between 11/27/06 and 12/21/06, dealer supposedly replaced bcm three times and 3rd new bcm fixed problem. Each new bcm would go to zero (0) and the mileage could not be programmed. During that time the theft deterrent system was deactivated which was unknown to me. Current mileage is incorrect. I believe that the original faulty bcm may have been re-installed and the codes cleared when they were unable to fix the problem. I do not believe that the other none-bcm error codes have been addressed but the dealer forced me to take my vehicle home on 12/21/06. *nm

2006 CHEVROLET COBALT with 20000.0 miles

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. She stated that while driving 20 to 30 mph, the steering wheel locked and she could not turn left or right. She turned the vehicle off, attempted to turn the steering wheel and restart the vehicle and was unsuccessful. The vehicle was then towed to a Chevrolet dealer and the computer diagnosis indicated no failure codes. The dealer also drove the vehicle 50 miles and was unable to duplicate the problem. The dealer has unsuccessfully diagnosed the failure on 4 occasions. The following four computer codes were listed: code P0700, U2105, U2100, and U0075; however, the vehicle has not been repaired. The contact is aware of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 20000 and current mileage was 41000.

Continued problem with service active handling, service traction control, service, and other system failures due to electrical system. The last time i had this problem, two weeks ago, the following codes were detected. U2100 U2105 U2107 U2108 even after i had the recall repaired, january 20, 2011, i am still having this problem. The recall itself is not fixing the problem, either. My two biggest concerns are: 1st - the safety recall is not fixing the problem and therefore, the safety issue remains. 2nd - fraud that gm is committing through the dealerships. People have taken their vehicle in to their dealerships for this same problem over and over and are being charged a fee to attempt to fix the problem, but the problem is not getting fixed. That is the root problem causing this issue. I am one of the lucky few where my warranty is covering the cost, but it is not right for gm and/or their dealerships to charge customers a fee to repair a problem they, (gm) knows exists. And, the recall is not the fix all as gm wants it to be. If this section is not in your area, please forward this part to whomever or whatever office that can address this issue, fraud. If i had the means to file a class action law suit, i would. Not for compensation, but to force gm to fix an existing problem they know is a real problem. And, stop them from ripping off customer's who bought their product. Updated 02/14/11 *bf

2005 CHEVROLET COBALT with 68000.0 miles

The 2005 chevy Cobalt, as well as possibly every other model year Cobalt has more problems than just the power steering motor failures. The speedometer no longer works in my vehicle, the low-fuel warning pops up no matter how much gas is in the car, the engine warning light illuminates, as well as the anti-theft light, battery light (the battery is brand new) and just about every light on the dashboard. Though this isn't a big problem, the radio locks itself and cannot be used until the car is turned off and turned back on. The car struggles to get out of first gear and has stalled repeatedly at red lights and on ramps to the highway. I have had the power steering recall repair done twice and when i took the car back to the dealership in may because the power steering warning had popped up again and the power steering stopped working, they said it was not the power steering and they sent me home in my stalling, jumping car with no power steering. Speaking to a chevy customer service representative, they told me to go have the car diagnosed (they did run a scan at the dealership and came up with codes U2107, U2100 and U2105) and that i should be responsible for the cost. I asked why they didn't suggest this at the dealership, and was never given an answer other than a repeated i should be held responsible and it's probably a bad ecm or bcm. The car is out of warranty and chevy offered 50% of the repair cost, but how is this a problem that i caused and should be responsible for at all? This car is incredibly unsafe to drive and i have read a number of similar complaints for this vehicle online. Gm must be held responsible for their faulty vehicles. The power steering recall did not take care of everyone's problems and the customers should not be held responsible for the manufacturer's failure.
