On certain trucks, the extension pipes attached to the aftertreatment regeneration device (ard) may develop a crack or hole and heat and flame may escape during a regeneration of the diesel particulate filter, which may result in a vehicle fire. correction: caterpillar dealers will replace the ard body and, if necessary, will replace the extension pipe and upgrade the software.
