    Issue: certain vans equipped with an integrated backup battery do not have a cover installed over the front passenger's seat base. as a result, if an object made of a conductive material is dropped into the opening, it could make contact with the battery terminals. this could result in a short circuit. safety risk: a short circuit could increase the risk of a fire. corrective actions: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to install a cover over the front passenger's seat base. consumers should not use a seat base with a battery as a storage compartment.
