    Issue: on certain m5 and m8 models, the transmission wiring harness could become damaged and lead to a short circuit. as a result, the vehicle could suddenly shift to neutral while driving. safety risk: a sudden of loss power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the transmission wiring harness for damage and replace it if necessary. additionally, the wiring harness will be rerouted and attached with different fasteners.
