• Recall 142604 [USA]: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2009-2011 k1300 (s, gt), 2010-2011 s1000 rr, 2005-2011 r1200 (gs, gs adventure, r, rt, s, st), 2006-2010 hp2 (enduro, megamoto, sport), 2005-2008 k1200 (r, r sport, s, gt), and 2012 k1600 (gt, gtl) motorcycles that were repaired under recall 13v-617 with the support ring remedy and where the fuel pump was not replaced at a later date. This recall involves the fuel pump, and also the auxiliary fuel pump as applicable. The affected motorcycles have a fuel pump flange that may crack, possibly resulting in a fuel leak while the engine is running.
  bmw will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump(s) with an improved version, free of charge. The recall began january 18, 2021. Owners may contact bmw customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

• Recall 114879 [USA]: If the rear wheel mounting flange cracks, the mounting bolts may loosen and the rear wheel may not remain secured to the motorcycle, causing a loss of stability and increasing the risk of a crash.

• Recall 68860 [USA]: If this goes unnoticed, and the brake fluid reservoir runs empty, the front brakes could fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2009 r 1200 and k 1200 series motorcycles manufactured from august 2006 through may 2009. Due to the current routing of the front brake lines, it is possible that during riding, and therefore associated vibration. The brake lines could be under strain. If the vibration/strain is significant, the brake line could split and start to develop a leak.

• Recall 76180 [USA]: Failure to observe the following precautions, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.
  Bmw is recalling 548 my 2008 k1200 s and gt motorcycles. The fasteners used to secure the front brake-disc may not be long enough to ensure a secure mounting. Over time, these fasteners could loosen. If that happened, the brake disc would no longer be securely mounted.

• Recall 81997 [USA]: It is possible that connecting rod and crankshaft damage could occur. if this happened, the engine could seize. if the motorcycle was in gear, engine seizing could result in lock-up of the rear tire, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw is recalling 30 my 2008 k1200 s and k1200 gt motorcycles. A set screw may not have been installed at its specific location within the oil duct. Consequently, an adequate supply of oil may not circulate within the engine.

• Recall RM/2010/008 [UK]: Front brake pipes may leak.
  The front brake pipes may leak brake fluid which can be noticed in the first instance by seepage of brake fluid from the front hose/s and a lowering of the fluid level in the reservoir. The next stage of failure would be a spongy feeling to the brake control and dripping fluid from the brake hoses. If all the previous indicators have not been noted and rectified the brakes will eventually not apply.

  Issue: on certain motorcycles, the fuel pump flange could crack. If this happens, fuel could leak while the engine is running. Note: this recall only affects motorcycles that did not have the fuel pump replaced under transport canada recall 2013-442. Safety risk: a fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump and auxiliary fuel pump (if equipped) with an improved version.

• Recall 2017428 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
  Certain motorcycles with dealer installed accessory turn signals may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cvmss) 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. The size of the lens on the accessory turn signals may be too small, and therefore would not meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following and approaching road users, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the accessory turn signals with factory indicators that meet the requirements of the standard.

  On certain motorcycles, the threaded holes on the rear wheel flange could crack if the wheel bolts are tightened beyond the specified torque limit during servicing. Over time, this could allow the bolts to back out of their threaded holes, causing the rear wheel to become loose. This could result in a loss of stability of the motorcycle, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the aluminum rear wheel flange with a steel flange.

  On certain motorcycles, cracks could develop in the fuel pump and/or auxiliary fuel pump flange (if equipped). This would result in fuel leaking when the engine is turned on and the fuel system is pressurized. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the fuel pump flange(s) and install a reinforcing ring or replace the fuel pump(s), as necessary.

  On certain motorcycles, the front brake lines (due to its current routing) may be under strain. The vibrations that occur when the motorcycle is being ridden could cause the brake lines to develop leaks, allowing brake fluid to escape and cause the level of fluid in the reservoir of the front brake system to drop. Brake fluid leakage could result in loss of front braking capability, which could lead to a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the front brake lines.

• Recall 2010395 [Canada]: Suspension
  On certain motorcycles, due to environmental conditions, the bearings of the link lever attached to the rear strut could be subject to corrosion. This could lead to reduced movement of the link lever. Over time, if the corrosion became significant, restriction of movement of the link lever could occur. This could affect handling of the motorcycle. In an extreme case, this could result in the connecting rod breaking by a bending force, causing the rear wheel to decelerate by contact with the inner fender. This could lead to a crash depending on traffic, road conditions and rider's reactions. Correction: dealers will replace the rear suspension relay lever.

The fuel pump flange on this 2008 bmw k1200gt is leaking onto the engine below. This is a known problem with this model as seen in this link: https://www.Asphaltandrubber.Com/recall/bmw-fuel-flange-leak-recall-2020/ and also at the link below which shows nhtsa's letter about this problem https://static.Nhtsa.Gov/odi/rcl/2020/rcak-20v471-2669.Pdf on my motorcycle gas is leaking out from the same fuel pump flange and leaking down onto the engine.. This is a fire hazard as noted in nhtsa's report. I have included a youtube video link below that shows how and where the gas is leaking out from my gas tank. This occurs if the bike is stationary or in motion. Fuel level sensor failure. Ran out of fuel while driving at highway speeds on interstate 90 eastbound in ny milepost 460.5. Fuel gauge showed 1/4 tank of fuel. No warning issued by motorcycle to rider. Bike just suddenly slowed in traffic. This is 4th time for this failure (had it repaired by bmw on aug 5, 2015)

Abs pump failure.

Fuel level sensor failure. Ran out of fuel while driving at highway speeds on interstate 90 westbound near mitchell, sd. Fuel gauge showed 1/8 tank of fuel. No warning issued by motorcycle to rider. Bike just suddenly slowed in traffic. This is 3rd time for this failure.

Rear drive bearings and wheel side seal failed gear lube on rear brake pads and rear brakes quit working. Tire tread contaminated with lube making greatly reduced traction. Nearly lost control of vehicle on stopping due to change in the vehicle dynamics and loss of rear wheel traction as the failure did not cause any indication that this had happened until stopping. The rear drive was serviced by the dealer within the last 4 months march 2015 at 11,400 miles or so. I have never had a failure on such a major safety related component such as this on any vehicle i have owned at such a relatively low total vehicle mileage level.

The final drive failed causing oil to be thrown on the rear tire without warning nearly causing a crash. I am a long time motorcycle rider and bmw owner. I inspected my motorcycle before my ride that morning. I left on a one hundred mile ride. About 70 miles into the ride in a left hand corner the rear tire slid without warning. I was able to keep the bike upright. I stopped and inspected the machine. I found that the final drive (differential) was leaking oil heavily. This oil has spread to the rear tire surface. The issue here is that bmw knows about this problem and has not recalled the motorcycle. They of course refuse to do anything financially about this known issue. The main issue with me is that i would never put my wife on the back of it again. If she had been riding with me i would have certainly crashed. I am a member of bmwmoa, i have read complaint after complaint about bmw final drive failures. It is a safety issue. I hope that you will look into this. I would sue the factory but i am sure no attorney would represent me because i wasn't hurt. I wonder how many bmw riders have been killed because this failure was overlooked or not noticed as a cause of loss of control. The repair will cost around one thousand dollars. But again the money isn't the issue with me. My complaint is that the vehicle is defective. The design causes oil to be thrown on the rear tire. This could be a fatal error. Tl* the contact owns a 2008 bmw k1200 gt motorcylce. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the brake light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while attempting to merge to the side of road, the brakes were engaged and the rear wheel seized. The dealer was contacted who stated that there was probability that the abs modulator was defective and advised the contact to call the manfacturer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 19,935. Updated 09/16/14*lj the consumer stated the manufacturer was notified and declined assistance. Updated 1/15/15 *js

During annual inspection dealer advised there was excessive play in rear wheel, requiring replacement of final drive bearings. Upon attempted removal and replacement of the crown bearings dealer determined that the axle is worn enough that the bearings fall off the axle. Dealer advises the bearings should be a press fit. Dealer advises replacement of final drive assembly is required with cost of $2269. Bike has all required bmw service maintenance. *tr
