  On certain vehicles operated in areas of high salt use, the spare tire hoist cable may corrode and eventually break. This would allow the spare tire to fall off the vehicle possibly resulting in a road hazard for other vehicles. Correction: a letter will be sent to owners of affected vehicles with maintenance and inspection instructions for spare tire hoist cable assemblies. Additionally, the letter will advise the owner that, if the cable breaks during that inspection, their dealer will repair the assembly. This policy will be in effect until december 31, 2002.

• Recall 1999015 [Canada]: Brakes
  Certain vehicles were built with the polarity of the wiring for the zero adjust brake switch reversed from what was specified. Reversed polarity will cause the contacts of the switch to wear out prematurely. When the contacts wear out they will fail to close when the brake pedal is applied, resulting in the loss of the brake lamps without any warning to the driver. This could result in failure to warn a following driver that the vehicle is braking and could lead to a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the brake switch and reverse the wiring.

• Recall 1998150 [Canada]: Visual system
  Certain vehicles may have windshield wiper motors with solder joints near the wiring harness connector that could crack. This could cause the windshield wiper to work intermittently and ultimately result in inoperative wipers. This could reduce driver visibility in inclement weather and result in a crash. Correction: wiper motor circuit board and cover will be replaced.

• Recall 1996007 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
  On certain vehicles, the seat recliner to seat frame attaching bolts could loosen, fatigue and fracture, allowing the seat back to suddenly recline. If this were to occur to the driver's seat, sudden loss of vehicle control could result with the possibility of a crash without prior warning. Correction: washers will be installed between the seat recliner and the seat frame at each attachment point and new attaching bolts will be installed and torqued to a higher specification. These corrections will be performed on both the driver's and passenger's seat.

  On certain vehicles, each side of the weight-distribution trailer hitch was attached by just two of the three specified fasteners. This could allow the hitch to move under towing loads and result in eventual failure of the fasteners. If this were to occur while a trailer was being pulled, the hitch and trailer could separate from the vehicle and a crash could occur without prior warning. Correction: dealers will install a bolt, two washers, and a nut on each side of the trailer hitch platform.

• Recall 1994070 [Canada]: Suspension
  On certain vehicles, the left-hand lower control arm to frame rear nut was inadequately torqued. This may allow the attachment bolt to loosen and subsequently fatigue and break. Bolt breakage could result in separation of the left-hand lower control arm from the frame causing loss of vehicle control and a crash without prior warning. Correction: the left-hand lower control arm to frame rear nut will be tightened to the proper torque specification.

  Certain vehicles were built with a brake pedal push rod retainer missing, mispositioned or not properly seated. This condition could cause the stop lamp switch and the brake booster push rod to disconnect from the brake pedal, resulting in loss of brake operation and a possible vehicle crash. Correction: vehicles will be inspected to ensure the brake pedal retainer is secure and fully seated in the groove and can be rotated a full 360 degrees in both directions.

  Certain vehicles do not comply with cmvss 207 - anchorage of seats. Vehicles may be missing bolts that connect the upper slave hinge to the seat back frame or bolts that connect the seat to the seat adjuster. Correction: vehicles will be inspected and bolts installed if required.
