  Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain model year 2009 dodge durango and chrysler aspen vehicles manufactured january 17, 2007, to december 18, 2008, and 2010 ram 3500 cab chassis manufactured september 25, 2009, to february 1, 2010. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

• Recall 95452 [USA]: If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning.
  Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 ram 1500 trucks manufactured from february 27, 2008, through june 30, 2009, and from december 1, 2009, through october 20, 2011; model year 2009-2011 dodge dakota trucks manufactured from february 27, 2007, through june 30, 2009, and from december 1, 2009, through september 30, 2011; model year 2009 chrysler aspen trucks manufactured from january 3, 2008, through december 18, 2008; and model year 2009 dodge durango trucks manufactured from january 3, 2008, through december 18, 2008. The rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized pinion spline that can allow relative motion between the nut and companion flange.
  on november 7, 2013 chrysler notified owners that dealers would install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. In july 2015, and under a consent order with nhtsa, the company agreed to offer owners three options for remedying their vehicles: perform the original remedy, offer to repurchase the vehicle at the fair market value plus 10%, or offer an additional incentive offer towards the purchase of a new dodge, jeep, chrysler, or fiat vehicle.   On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the driver frontal airbag inflator. Note: this is an expansion of recall 2015-228. Only ram 3500 cab chassis models are affected. As canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly, the recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

• Recall 2013044 [Canada]: Powertrain
  On certain vehicles, the rear axle pinion nut could loosen and allow the rear driveshaft to detach from the axle, or fully detach from the vehicle. Pinion nut separation could also cause the rear axle differential to fail suddenly, causing rear wheel lockup. These issues could result in loss of propulsion, danger to other road users, loss of vehicle control and possible crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will install a pinion nut retainer.

• Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). Brake booster when the weather is cold, there is a loud click at the brake pedal, followed by an air pump skins at the firewall when car comes to a stop. Sometimes the brake use is definitely reduced.

I took my car in for a recall on my driver's side airbag. Before they started to do the work they said they were not responsible for any damage to my car because it was an older model. I am very upset that i took my car in for safety reasons and they could damage my car in the process! How unfair on the part of the consumer to make them pay for possible damage when they are taking their car in for safety reasons! And dodge doesn't believe in the integrity of their own product at the same time! This needs to be addressed by the nhtsa!

Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 dodge durango. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v352000 (air bags) and 16v947000 (air bags). However, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge durango. While the vehicle was stationary, the fuel tank would not fill up properly. The contact stated that it took 45 minutes for the fuel tank to become filled. The vehicle was diagnosed as having a screen inside the fuel tank that was filled with particles, which blocked the fuel from entering the tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Updated 09/29/16*lj the consumer stated the gas tank rusted, due to the gas leak. Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge durango. The contact stated that the vehicle developed an oil leak. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who determined that the transmission oil cooler failed. The mechanic tried to order the part, but it was on back order because this had been a wide spread issue. The manufacturer stated that they would send the part once it became available. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 88,527.

My 2009 dodge durango 4wd v8-5.7l hybrid is lurching and thumping during breaking at low speeds. A certified mechanic determined the issue is the "rear axle pinion nut". The mechanic also informed me that this part is under recall on my model automobile (n08130925-051). A call to chrysler customer service revealed that my vehicle has an 8.25 rear axle and the recall is only on vehicles with a 9.25 rear axle. The representative at chrysler said that there is nothing they can do to help me. I find it incredibly unreasonable to have recalled this vehicle model with the identical problem on a different size axle and not also fix the recalled problem on my vehicle. *tr

The truck suspension squeaks really bad and no other vehicles i know does that

Over the years , my vehicle ad lost temporary steering control whenever i am making a right turn onto a street and there is standing water. This has happened around five times within the last three to four years.I keep my foot in the gas an steering control would return . *tr

The contact opened the driver side door and noticed that the driver's seat was engulfed in flames. The entire door panel was melted. The contact extinguished the fire. The manufacturer sent an independent inspector to perform a brief inspection of the vehicle. The inspector stated that the fire undoubtedly originated from the driver's seat motor control switch, which moves the seat. The chrysler engineers reviewed the inspector's report and stated that they would not repair the vehicle due to the year of the vehicle and the number of years the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
