The front suspension spring/shock towers can crack and eventually separate from the vehicle frame. The shock tower could damage the rear wheel brake lines resulting in loss of rear brake system pressure.

  Vehicle description: pickup trucks equipped with manual transmission, v10 engines and four-wheel-drive transfer cases. Under sustained maximum rated vehicle load, while driving up a steep grade in four-wheel-drive low range in hot ambient conditions, the local exhaust temperature proximate to the hydraulic clutch line can generate line temperatures that exceed the temperature limit of the clutch line material. If this condition occurs and the clutch is depressed, the line could rupture.

  Vehicle description: van and wagon model passenger vehicles. If water/road salt gets on the interior floor of the vehicle in the proximity of the air bag electronic control module (aecm), the aecm can corrode. The resulting corrosion can cause the driver side air bag to deploy inadvertently.

  Vehicle description: pickup trucks equipped with diesel engines. The engine driven vacuum pump can allow engine oil into the vacuum hoses due to the absence of an internal check valve. The oil can cause the hose to deteriorate and partially collapse, reducing the vacuum supply to the brake booster.

  On certain ram 3500 vehicles, the headlamp switches used in this truck series operate under a high current load which results in switch internal temperatures above the 100 degree centigrade limit for the internal lubing grease. This heat will cause the grease to break down and increase the resistance in the switch resulting in eventual switch failure. Correction: headlamp switches will be replaced and a relay will be included in the park lamp wiring circuit causing the headlamps or park lamps to go out.

  On certain pickup trucks equipped with a diesel or v-10 engine, the front suspension spring/shock towers may crack and eventually separate from the vehicle frame. If the left side tower cracking goes undetected by the operator and separates from the frame, the shock tower may damage the rear wheel brake lines. If this happens, this may result in reduced system pressure creating the potential for increased stopping distances. Correction: spring/shock towers will be inspected and vehicles exhibiting cracking will have the towers replaced with a tower that incorporates reinforcement. Vehicles that do not exhibit cracking will have a weld on reinforcement added.

  Odi has identified 30 incidents where it is alleged the seat back collapsed in a rear impact crash.These incidents are alleged to have contributed to 23 injuries and two deaths.The data presented to odi show that the seat back strength of the front seats comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 207. Seating system.According to daimlerchrylser the front seats were designed to collapse rearward in rear impact crashes as part of the energy absorptioncapabilities of the seating system to reduce the chance of serious injury to the occupant.Rates of occurance were compared to peer vehicles, and it was shown that the performace of the subject vehicle was comparable to those vehicles.In view of the forgoing, it is unlikely that nhtsa would issue an order for the notification remedy of a safety defect in the subject vehicles as defined by the petitioner at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.Therfore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize the nhtsas limited resources to best accomplish the agencys mission, the petition is denied.For further details, refer to odis response to the petition published in the federal register vol.69, no. 60 , dated march 29, 2004.

  Odi has received 33 complaints alleging excessive heat in the ignition switch and related circuitry in 1994-1996 dodge ram trucks.The root cause is an excessive current draw through the ignition switch result in fire, smoke, melting of surrounding plastics, stalling and the illumination of air bag and anti-lock brake system (abs) warnig lights. Daimlerchrsler has been aware of the potential for this failure and implemented a design change to reduce the current draw through the switch.This design change involved the installation of a relay in the blower motor circuitry for all ram trucks built after march 15,1996.Daimlerchrysler also made available an ignition switch repair package (pn 4874996) which includes the necessary components to upgrade vehicles built prior to the implementation date.Daimlechrysler also issued a correspondence to its zones instructing technicians to replace failed ignition switches in the subject population with the sevice kit only.An engineering analysis is necessary to determine if a safety defect trend exists.Odi will focus its investigation on fires in the steering column area as well as the effects of switch failure on the abs and air bag system.

Dash cracked and coming apart. *tr

While driving 70 mph driver heard a rattling sound. Driver pulled over, got out, and smelled fumes. To his surprise the fuel tank had detached from the truck and was dragging on the road. Mechanic was amazed that the fuel tank didn't burst into flames because of a fist sized hole. The straps that support the fuel tank were never found, and the part was no longer being manufactured. *ak *tc

The dealership was unable to perform the ignition switch wiring recall #00v135000, and the throttle cable recall# 01v037000 because the parts were not available. It has been 60 days. *nm recall campaign; the consumer stated that it has now been 3 months and the parts are still not available. *tc the consumer has since found a part on his own.

While driving at night driver's side and passenger's side headlights failed to come on. This caused poor visibility. Consumer tool vehicle to dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that headlight switch needed to be replaced t due to solenoid defect. *ak

While parked on a incline, the vehicle shifted out of park without warning. This caused a minor vehicle collision. *jb
