  Daimler trucks is recalling 28,764 my 2001 through 2008 fccc b2 and fs65 school bus chassis, fccc fb65 conventional buses, and sterling acterra, freightliner fln, and business class m2 heavy trucks, built from january 26, 2000, through march 24, 2008, manufactured with arvinmeritor or axle alliance company 6,000 through 8,000 pound front axles utilizing a four piece spindle-nut set. These axle assemblies may have been produced with a thin spindle nut which may lead to incorrect end play, cone spin, excessive heat, degradation of lubrication, wear of the spindle nut and bearing journal, oil contamination with metal shavings, and premature bearing failure.

• Recall 89060 [USA]: These conditions could either result in leakage and cause a delay in the application of the spring brake without warning or possibly lead to unintended vehicle rollaway or brake drag which could result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or death.
  Certain freightliner school bus chassis, heavy trucks, and thomas built school buses manufactured between july 2002 and july 3, 2007, equipped with bendix sr-7 spring brake control valves. The parker scv brass 90 degree single check valves (scv) which attach to the supply port of a bendix sr-7 spring brake modulating valve can break apart. Pieces of the parker scv can become lodged inside the sr-7 spring brake modulating valve, potentially causing either leakage out of the sr-7 valve or preventing air from properly exhausting from the sr-7 valve. Also, due to a manufacturing defect in the internal rubber check valve inside the sr-7 spring brake modulating valves, the valves can become deformed and not seat properly.

  On certain trucks equipped with manual transmission, the tapered joint that attaches the shifter to the transmission may become loose making it difficult to put the transmission into gear.

  On certain vehicles equipped with kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. The effect of this defect is intermittent and presents a potential delay or failure in applying the parking brakes; potentially resulting in a vehicle roll away.   Odi is closing this investigation based on daimler truck north america s (dtna) march 19, 2008, defect notification report which outlines dtnas intention to campaign 28,764 freightliner, sterling, and freightliner custom chassis vehicles [equipped with either arvinmeritor or axle alliance company 6,000 - 8,000 pound rated front axle assemblies utilizing a four piece spindle nut set] manufactured between january 26, 2000, and march 24, 2008.Dtna has proposed providing a remedy for the currently installed four piece spindle nut systems which "may lead to incorrect end play, [bearing] cone spin, excessive heat, degradation of lubrication, wear of the spindle nut [backface] and bearing journal, oil contamination with metal shavings, and premature bearing failure.Continued operation may lead to a wheel separation."odi has relieved dtna of the responsibility to provide the information requested as part of this rq so that dtna could focus their efforts on investigation of the wheel separation issues and planning and implementing a responsive and timely field action (campaign).

Daimler vans, llc safety recall 2010-040002 called freightliner dealer in oak creek, wi (truck country, inc.) they have no information and cannot do the repair according to the safety recall. I tried calling daimler and listened to music on hold for 40 minutes. I got nowhere with them! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 mercedes business class. The contact stated that the repair for the nhtsa recall, campaign id number: 09v418000, engine and engine cooling, exhaust system was performed on his vehicle. The contact also stated that the egr assembly was defective and should have been replaced when the recall repair was done. The failure and current mileages were approximately 50,000.

Had to replace the seal on the axle twice in 6 months. While driving on the freeway the entire right wheel broke off and ran off the road causing an accident. My truck had to be towed and the wheel was recovered and the whole wheel assembly had to be replaced. The old parts disintegrated during the accident. *tr

While driving 2003 frieghtliner sprinter on two occasions was overcome with noxious fumes, resulting in carbon monoxide posioning that requried a emergency visit to the hospital. Van has been in for service and continues to have same problem. This is a company van .

Contact states: that door blew open while driving. Electric door for passengers freight liner sprinter 2003. Braun conversion for wheels chairs. Has electric door that has no latch to close and there is gap in the door,1/2 inch. The consumer was told by the dodge dealer that it is was the conversion part for braun that was the problem. And to take it to a place that works on conversions. Vehicle was taken to waither body shop 562-447-1256 for repairs. Repair cost is unknown, underwritten by braun corporation. Includes upgrade to prevent this from happening again. *tt *nm

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 freight liner m2 business class. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, gasoline leaked from the truck and onto the under carriage. The truck was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the higher pressure fuel line needed to be replaced. The truck was repaired but the problem persisted.
