The safety chain bale on these vehicles, to which the trailer safety chain or cable is attached, may have a defective weld in a critical area. If the trailer hitch should become unlatched while the vehicle is in motion, or if an accident were to occur and cause the safety chain to impose forces on the safety chain bale, the bail could fail and result in complete separation of the truck and trailer.
