These motorcycles have air bag inflators assembled as part of the air bag module that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to higher absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

• Recall 90990 [USA]: The passenger floorboard may separate from the vehicle, possibly resulting in injury or a crash.
  Kuryakyn is recalling certain aftermarket passenger floorboard mounts, part number 607005, sold and installed for use on 2001-2012 honda gl 1800 (goldwing) motorcycles. This mount was sold on kuryakyn 'transformer' passenger floorboard sets, part number 7005 from september 15, 2008, to present. The floorboard mount may crack and break free from the mounting bolts that secure the mount to the motorcycle.

• Recall 2018001 [Canada]: Airbag
  On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. For the gl1800 model, dealers will replace the airbag module. Note: canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

  On certain motorcycles, the combined brake system's secondary master cylinder may cause the rear brakes to drag. Continued riding with the rear brake engaged/dragging may generate enough heat to cause the rear brake to catch fire. These issues could result in injury and/or property damage. Unexpected braking may also adversely affect vehicle stability, which could result in a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the secondary master cylinder with one that has a modified check valve. In addition to replacing the secondary master cylinder, dealers will also replace the rear master cylinder and flush the brake fluid. Note: this recall supersedes recall 2014-326. All vehicles having been inspected and/or serviced under the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair.

  Nhtsa opened audit query (aq) 12-001 to determine whether southern honda powersports (southern honda) of chattanooga, tennessee, had complied with the requirements of the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act, as amended, 49 u.S.C. Chapter 301 (safety act) and its implementing regulations. The safety act requires, among other things, that a motor vehicle or equipment manufacturer notify its dealers of defects related to motor vehicle safety and non-compliances with federal motor vehicle safety standards.In turn, a dealer may not sell and deliver a new vehicle subject to a recall unless the recall remedy has been performed.(see 49 u.S.C. 30120(i); 49 c.F.R. 573.11)nhtsa issued an information request to southern honda on may 14, 2012 to which they responded on july 6, 2012.Nhtsa’s inquiry led it to believe that southern honda had failed to complete the requirements of five recalls that required inspections and/or repairs of motorcycles prior to their sale or delivery.Nhtsa believes that 329 motorcycles affected by recalls had not been inspected and/or repaired prior to their sale and delivery between 2007 and 2012.The agency is unaware of any deaths or injuries involving these vehicles.Nhtsa concluded that it had a potential civil penalty claim against southern honda for violations of the safety act.Southern honda denied any violations of the safety act.In order to settle this matter, southern honda agreed to pay a civil penalty in the amount of $125,000, to be paid in five annual installments.This aq is closed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 honda goldwing. The contact stated that the rear brake pedal was depressed but failed to engage. The vehicle was taken to atlantic cycle & power dealer (4580 crain hwy, white plains, md 20695, (301) 392-1770) where it was diagnosed that the rear master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred four times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000. The vin was not available. *tr

At 35 to 40 miles per hour, i could not accelerate to 45. Engine sounded strained and i smelled burning smell. My hand brake became locked open without any ability to press down on the brakes. I had to pull over and was stranded in left turn lane. I knew from previous re-call notice that the brakes can lock, but my bike had the re-call fixed where the master cylinder was replaced, it still failed. My bike was towed in today to the dealership and i will not hear until they look at it. I know it was the brakes though and i am really upset that the re-call fix may not be a fix at all. I was on the road going straight in motion when this happened.

Three months ago i bought a 2010 goldwing with only 11,000 miles on it. Rode it for a month and the transmmison going into 5th gear is slipping. Taking it to honda and they have determined the transmission needs to be replaced. They have agreed to pay for the parts. Which the labor is crazy and cost more than the parts. Which i'm very grateful that they have done that. But it appears that this is a know defect why has there not been a recall on the transmission? It would be nice to know these defects before not after having to dish out a lot of of money on a pretty much new goldwing. If they could at least honor a part of the labor cost it would help. I have read a lot on the internet and it appears to be a on going problem. Would be nice if goldwing would take care of the issue and offer to fix the issue instead of costing their loyal costumes lots of money. I'm a lady rider and ride alone a lot. Do not need to get stranded out on the hightway on a broken goldwing. If there is a issue with this please let us goldwing riders know. Lots of my friends ride goldwing a and now we are a little concerned of what goldwing is not telling us about their product. Is there a recall we haven't heard about? My goldwing clutch started making a rattling sound in the clutch when out of gear. Then when put in gear it stopped. Then when going down the road it slips out of 5th gear. When put back in gear it tries to slip back out. This is a know problem why has goldwing not made it aware to the public.

The contact maneuvered off the road and shut off the motorcycle. The dealer was contacted and gave instructions to repair the brake cylinder. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,200.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder, the brake rotor and pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,250.

Safety issue and needs immediate attention i took my bike in to have a front tire put on and found out the front brake pads were worn out [prematurely] there was a recall done on the secondary master cylinder and supposedly checked good previously. I think the recalled item is bad and has been bad causing the brakes to wear out. Honda corporation customer service is saying that the bike is out of warranty even though it is just a few days out they will not do anything for me and the bike was modified so they are washing their hands of the problem. I had them put new brakes on at the dealer and flush the entire brake system. It took them a week to fix it 11/09/13 the job was done now 12/02/13 the brakes locked up had a hot burning smell and the brake temperature of the rear brakes were at 330 degrees when i left it at the dealership. The dealership has done everything they could for me. So my complaint is with honda corporate. Honda corporate responses were 1. The customer rides with his foot on the brake 2. The bike is out of warranty 3. The bike was modified 4. The decision has been made by honda that they will do nothing for customer satisfaction. I believe the brakes wearing out prematurely and now the brakes being locked up are all a result of the failed part that is a known defect and honda is refusing to repair the parts that are wearing out early or do anything for customer satisfaction. This need to be looked into and honda needs to be held responsible. If this is the way they treat customers i don't need to be one of their customers. I hope somebody can contact honda corporate and have them resolve their problem. They are playing with my life this is a very serious issue with brakes and is a known problem, which could result in an accident or death. I think honda needs to take this into consideration. This is a safety issue and needs immediate attention. *tr

At the gas station the brakes blocked . The manufacturer honda issued a recall in 2012 . I took the motorcycle to the dealer after checking it i was told the problem was fixed . Between the recall and the problem the motorcycle was revised twice for 8000 and 12000 miles. During these revisions the brakes should have been checked , they were not . Imagine what happens if i am on the road at 55 miles an hour and the brakes block what do you suggest me to do since the manufacturer , honda and the dealer are not very helpful .
