• Recall 55689 [USA]: If the motorcycle continues to be used after a leak occurs, the rear brake would eventually become inoperative. a loss of rear brake force could increase the risk of a crash.
  Certain motorcycles equipped with combined-brake systems have a proportioning control valve (pcv) that mechanically proportions brake force when the rear brake is applied. A seal in some pcvs is improperly shaped, and brake fluid leakage may occur.
  dealers will inspect the rear brake forleakage. If leakage is confirmed, the dealer will replace the pcv free of charge. The recall began on january 31, 2005. Owners may contact honda at 866-784-1870.

• Recall 56561 [USA]: If the fuel pump stops working, the engine will stall without warning, which could cause a crash.
  On certain motorcycles, the main wire harness has a ground distribution connector that is incorrectly assembled. Some electrical circuits may overheat and short, including the fuel pump.
  dealers will inspect the ground distribution connector for overheating damage. If any damage is found, the wire harness will be replaced. If no damage is found, the connectors will be assembled properly. The recall began on december 8, 2004. Owners should contact honda at 866-784-1870.

  The battery ground line connector within the wiring harness may overheat due to insufficient capacity of the connector. The result will be a bad connection and an open circuit which will affect the operation of the fuel pump and the bank angle sensor which may cause the engine to cut out.

  On certain motorcycles, an improperly shaped seal in the brake proportioning control valve could allow brake fluid leakage to occur. With continued use, a leak in the proportioning valve would cause the rear brake to eventually become inoperative. Although the front brake provides most of the braking function, a loss of rear brake force could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the brake proportioning valve.

  On certain motorcycles, the distributor connector cap of the main wire harness was improperly wired, causing one ground circuit to be apportioned an excessive load. If the connector overheats, the power to various circuits could be lost. As a result, a loss of critical lighting or engine power could occur without warning, which could cause a crash. Correction: dealers will inspect the ground distribution connector and check for damage. If any damage is found, the dealer will install an improved main harness. If no damage is found, the dealer will install a reconfigured connector cap that will apportion the ground load correctly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda st1300 motorcycle. While inspecting the vehicle, the fluid levels in the brake fluid reservoir were low. There was no evidence of a fluid leak. While riding approximately 45 mph, the contact heard a loud popping noise from the rear of the bike and the rear brakes suddenly became inoperable. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that there was no brake fluid present in the brake reservoir. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda st1300 mototrcycle. The contact stated that while replacing the tires, he noticed that the rear wheel bearing was very rough. The contact expressed concern over the possible seizing of the rear wheel. The bike was taken to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that the rear wheel bearing was fractured and needed to be replaced. The bearing was replaced. The failure had since recurred. The bike was taken back to the dealer after each failure, where it was repaired. The failure mileage was 76,895 and the current mileage was 143,500. Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda st 1300 motorcycle. While driving 60 mph and attempting to brake the brake system locked without warning. The motorcycle went into a tail spin. However, the driver was able to maintain control and stop the motorcycle. The failure and current mileage were 11500. There were no injuries. *ak the consumer stated that the dealer informed him a rear caliper bolt had become lodge into the brake system causing the brakes to lock up. Dt: contact states while driving the motorcycle it does not shift properly. Contact feels this poses a safety hazard while in traffic. Vehicle has not been to a service dealer but there is an appointment scheduled. *ak

Dt: 2004 honda st1300. The consumer stated that rear brakes locked. This problem has happened several times. The consumer contacted the dealer. The consumer took honda to columbia south carolina dealer. Vehicle has been at dealership for 1 week. Honda dealer in columbia south carolina said they fixed brakes, but the brakes failed again. *ak

A recall for a wiring defect was issued, however, consumer attempted on several occasions to setup an appointment, and the dealer stated the part was not available.*ak

Recall campaign 05v010000 concerning combined brake system leak, and recall 04v568000 concerning poor wiring inside block. Consumer was unable to get both recalls honored by the dealer because no parts were available.*ak
