  • Recall 9378 [USA]: The reduced strength can allow the cast iron wear surface to separate from the hub, reducing the brake effectiveness of the vehicle.
Vehicle description: passenger and multi-purpose vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the states of connecticut, illinois, indiana, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, or wisconsin, and the district of columbia. The front disc brake rotors can experience severe corrosion if operated for an extensive period in the "salt belt." if the rotors are not replaced, the corrosion can eventually compromise the structural integrity of the stamped steel center hub section of the rotor.
dealers will replace these rotors with rotors that are coated with a corrosion protection.
owner notification began december 20, 1999. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-992-1997.Also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

Vehicle description: multipurpose passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. This is not a safety recall in accordance with federal regulation 573. However, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. Drivers can mistakenly step on the accelerator pedal when they intend to step on the brake pedal.
dealers will install a shift interlock on the automatic transmission of these vehicles.
note:chrysler has decided to conduct a safety improvement campaign to install a shift interlock on these vehicles.Owners can contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

  • Recall R/2001/166 [UK]: Front brake rotors (discs) may fail.
There is a possibility that corrosion may cause the front brake rotors (discs) to separate from the centre hub section. Vehicle may pull to one side when braking. Also braking efficiency will be reduced.
recall affected vehicles for inspection and if necessary replacement of both front brake rotors with new version. ( note. Some vehicles will already have the new version fitted)

  • Recall 1998012 [Canada]: Brakes
Note: vehicles originally retailed in ontario, quebec and the maritime provinces. The composite front disc brake rotors on these vehicles may fail due to corrosion. The cast iron wear surface may separate from the hub reducing the braking effectiveness of the vehicle. Correction: front composite rotors will be replaced with ones having a revised corrosion protection coating.

  • Recall 1996050 [Canada]: Emissions
Note: vehicles equipped with 2.5 litre engine. These vehicles may not comply with c.M.V.S.S. 1103 - exhaust emissions. The mat surrounding the catalyst biscuits may erode due to excessive thermal expansion of the catalyst can. Correction: catalytic converter will be replaced with one using new mat material.

  • Recall 1993044 [Canada]: Fuel supply
Note: vehicles equipped with 4.0 litre engines. These vehicles may not comply with c.M.V.S.S. 301 - fuel system integrity. Rollover testing revealed fuel leakage in excess of the standard. Correction:blocker bracket will be installed to prevent fuel rail contact with the upper radiator support during a frontal impact.

I was driving on the interstate. The speed limit was 65. When i got to 60 i noticed my suv began to shake. Hitting a bump most of the time starts the problem. It vibrated so much and so loudly that i had to slow down to 55. I took it to the first mechanic who said it was the "steering stabilizer" it did cost about $150-$300 to fix. I can't remember exactly but it wasn't cheap. It worked for awhile. I have gone to several other car service companies and they have not been able to permanently fix this problem. I'm afraid i will lose control of steering. Although there is no recall on this vehicle at the moment it should be. This is a serious safety problem. I'm not exactly sure when this started but if i go over 60 there is a 90% chance of it happening. If i go over 60 and hit a bump there is a 100% chance of this happening.

Dear sir/madam: i would like to bring to your attention matters related to a certain safety defect which i believe resulted in car crashes caused by the unintended acceleration of daimler/chrysler's, chrysler group vehicles. Daimler/chrysler is my former employer and i worked there as an engineer. During my tenure there, i worked closely with the group that now has as its members, the corporations expert witness defending the corporation in law suits related to these crashes. This same group was also responsible for developing and releasing the controls which are believed to be the root cause of the problem. At one point in time i was part of the team at dailmer/chrysler that was responsible for investigating customer complaints regarding crashes caused by unintended acceleration. Accordingly, i believe that i may be able to provide some very good if not exclusive inside information related to this matter. I believe that these car crashes are the result of dailmer/chryslers flagrant negligence in developing the systems that are believed to be the root cause of these crashes. If my assistance in investigating this matter would be of interest to you, please let me know. I am willing to help in whatever capacity i can. It is wrong that dailmer/chrysler built and sold vehicles which may hurt if not kill someone. Regardless of your disposition of this matter, if possible, i would greatly appreciate a reply on or before december 18, 2003 outlining you intended course of action to my concern. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. *nlm

My car has been steadily losing oil for the last month and i after i came back from lunch at work one day, which was less than a mile from my work, i noticed that my car was smoking so i pulled over and waited for a half an hour then went directly to the gas station where he told me i needed to have the exhaust manifold repaired, i took it to my mechanic and he advised me that the exhaust manifold was cracked and if he took it apart it would end up costing more than the car was worth. Since we just paid the car off, i was hoping the dealer would replace the cracked manifold. It has been steadily losing oil and i have to put oil in almost every other week now, which is expensive. This has never been a problem until recently. Also at times the neutral safety switch does not work as there have been instances where my car will not start and when i put the car in neutral it will start. *la

I have moved since purchasing my jeep. I was traveling on the road when all of a sudden my breaks did not work. I crashed to a stop but by the grace of god i was not traveling at a high speed. I only bumped my head. I had to have the car towed to crest auto world in n. Conway, nh. They said that the front break rotors seperated from the center hub. He gave me a copy of a recall notice showing that the year 90-91 & 93 for my car had a recall for this exact problem. When i called crysler, they said that they would not do anything to help me with this. If they found this exact problem with those years, why did they skip 92?? Since this is the exact problem, i think that people should be warned so that nobody dies because of this.

On the first occasion, the car smashed into my back steps causing about $500 damage to the steps and $1250 damage to the vehicle. I had been in the car and exited to retrieve something from the garage. The car was idling in the driveway when suddenly it started moving backwards toward the house. When i shut the car off, i found the car was in reverse, not park. I would never have been able to exit the car if it had been in gear, so i knew that something was amiss with the car. Later in february, the same thing happened again, but this time i was in the vehicle when it happened and i was therefore able to step on the brake to stope the car. *ak
