I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee laredo and we noticed that the fuel tank skid plate was all rusty. And pieces were falling off. My boyfriend looked at it and come to find out the skid plate is the only thing holding my gas tank in. The one side where the bolts are were all rusted and not even connected so my gas tank was about to fall out of my car and only being held in by the other bolt on the other side. I think this is a true hazard and needs to be recalled asap! Ever jeep i see has the same issue with rusty skid plates over the gas tank. My jeep. Runs grew and body is fine the gas tank skid plate needs to be fix asap recall now! I'm scared to drive my car with my kids in it

For a couple of years now my air bag warning light comes on and an intermittent warning chime (1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo). I have not had it repaired because i can't afford the expense. I don't know if the airbag will deploy when it shouldn't or if it will not deploy when it should. I have seen the same complaint on this safety website and think it should be addressed by jeep.

The air bag light constantly comes on and chimes on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo. It is mostly when i make a left turn. This is a very costly repair. The manufacturer should make a re-call of all these jeeps. What are you waiting for "a terrible accident" i found out that all jeeps made in 1999 have this defect, and nothing has been done about it. Concern jeep owner. *tr

We bought a used 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo last year for our son to drive, thinking it would be a safe vehicle for him in all kinds of weather and road conditions. We did not expect to have problems driving on the highway on dry roads in perfect weather. The vehicle has started to stall at highway speeds, causing a loss of power steering and brakes, and most likely air bags as well. We are lucky he is a safe driver, and was able to get the vehicle off the road safely. Our trusted mechanic, who is a jeep owner, changed the crankcase position sensor, this did not help. He advised us to bring it to the local jeep dealer, because they would be better able to troubleshoot the problem, reading the codes, as opposed to throwing parts at it. The dealer cleaned some ground wires, gave it back to us, and it stalled on the highway going home, and wouldn't restart. We had to wait for a tow truck in a hazardous location in a rainstorm. We brought it back to the dealer, and they keep it for a week. Put 50 miles on it test driving, and couldn't duplicate the problem. They didn't charge us for this, they seem like they are trying to help, but they don't seem to have a good handle on the problem. The problem could be caused by any number of electrical components, from the computer, to the wiring, to sensors, modules, even the ignition switch. No codes are displayed. In looking on this website, i found 5 complaints from just 1999 and 2000, for the same problem. One woman is terrified to drive it with her three kids in the car. This is not confined to just these model years. There are a lot of these vehicles on the road, some people have been able to fix the problem, some certainly have not because it is hard to pinpoint. How chrysler has been able to duck responsibility on this serious problem for so long is beyond me. *tr

Jeep shuts down while driving at any speed. Will shut down/stall and may start back up or might be 10 minutes or two hours or the next day before it will start again. Stalling has gotten progressively more frequently. I have almost been rear ended twice when it stalls. Been to several mechanics and no one has been able to correct problem. *tr

I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden i herd a loud noise and before i knew it my truck was filled with smoke and i couldnt see out the wind shield i had to hurry up and get to the side by the guard rail while struggling to see, and i had my kids in the car with me .I had to have it towed to my house my mechanic came to check it and discovered a big hole and when he took the engine out he said you could tell it was there already and the dealership had to patch it up before they sold it to me because it was to perfect and i only had the truck for 1 year. *tr

I was driving my jeep in traffic when the front drivers seat dropped at the front left corner. The weld on the seat snapped, and now the seat wobbles from front left to back right, worried that the rest will break when im driving and kill someone or myself in a bad accident. Read hundreds of the same complains and to me it should be a recall and sort it out before its to late. The jeep dealer did not want to know. *tr

While driving on the interstate and preparing to exit, vehicle would not slow down or decelerate. I tried to apply the brakes in attempt to stop.Shifted into neutral in order to gain control.Rpm's immediatly shot up to 3000 and fluctuated between 3000 - 4000.Pulling to the side and looking under the hood to see if there was any obstruction in the accelerator linkage, there was not.I attempted to start the vehicle again 3 times with the same results.I let the vehicle cool for 1/2 hour ( temperature was in proper range ), normal operation was obtained. This the first ( and only episode ) i hope to experience. I am an experienced driver and was able to think quickly. Some others may not be so lucky. There is obviously a trend and problem here that chrysler should deal with. After all i'm sure they dont want us to start buying other makes of vehicles. *js
