• Recall 60652 [USA]: Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without warning.
  Certain pro-a motors corner lamps, turn signals, and headlights sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles listed above. Some combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.
  pro-a motors will notify owners and offer to repurchase the lamps. The recall began on april 3, 2006. Owners may contact pro-a motors at 323-838-2988.

• Recall 35468 [USA]: Should this occur, the cockpit could cause injury by striking persons outside the vehicle or could become a distraction or an obstacle to other drivers, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
  Bestop aftermarket rear shell roof racks,manufactured between april 27 and may 20, 2004, designed for use with the bestop hardtop made for the 1986-1995 and 1997-2003 jeep wrangler. The cockpit cover may not stay latched to the roof rack because the latch bracket mispositions the rotary latch to the cockpit cover. As a result, the cockpit cover may not stay latched to the roof rack and could separate from the roof rack. This recall only pertains to aftermarket rear shell roof racks and has no relation to any original equipment installed on jeep wrangler vehicles by daimlerchrysler.
  bestop will notify its customers and provide a repair kit and installation instructions free of charge. Owner notification began june 16, 2004. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact bestop customer service department at (800) 845-3567.

• Recall 1959 [USA]: This could allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
  On certain sport utility vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, the parking brake can self-release without warning.
  dealers will install a parking brake assembly with a stronger pawl return spring. Owner notificaton began september 30, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

• Rear axle shaft separation investigation # PE95049

  This investigation was opened to examine the failure mode and the risk to motor vehicle safety posed by allegations of rear axle separations.The rear axle shaft and housing design is typical of those in which the weight of the vehicle is carried on the axle housing.The left and right axle shafts, supported by roller bearings, are situated inside the axle housing.The inboard splined end of the axle shaft receives power transmitted from the differential assembly, providing torque to the rear wheels.The allegations are that the axle shaft fails, resulting in the separation of a wheel and axle hub assembly or the entire axle shaft and wheel assembly, depending on the location of the axle shaft failure.As identified by chrysler, the subject rear axles are dana 35c and 35cm models, which have been used on the subject vehicles since the 1990 model year.A safety defect trend with respect to the subject axle shafts has not been identified.See hard copy resume for full text of summary.

Purchased this vehicle in 2020. Was notified by insurance of a recall that was not done. Called the local dealership and they advised work cannot be done because the recall is over 10 years old.

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to grindstaff chrysler dodge jeep ram (2226 w elk ave, elizabethton, tn 37643) to be repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 02v041000 (parking brake). The contact stated that after the recall repair was completed, the parking brake failed on multiple occasions. The contact stated that the vehicle rolled forward after engaging the parking brake. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure however, the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 280,000.*dt consumer stated parts were replaced but recurred again less than 4,000 miles.*jb

I called bay area jeep dealerships (serramonte & putnam) regarding my 1995 jeep wrangler truck vibrations that developed over the last couple of weeks. Online that this has a name, - the jeep death wobble. Two days ago, my vehicle shook so violently i almost lost control of my car, was able to pull off the freeway, vehicle continued to shake even at 20 mph, and the shaking broke the bolts on my roll bar. I spoke to "tracy" at the chrysler corporation today who said that since there is no recall there is nothing the company can do, that i should fix this on my own and keep the receipts "in case there's a recall" which i find unacceptable. There is nothing i can find which indicates how this can be fixed. Cas and the nhtsa, which i plan to do. Please give me some direction here, i do not know how to fix this thing.

Consumer noticed vehicle's transmission slipping, minor atf leak, & had vehicle inspected. Atf was heavily contaminated by particulate matter generated by mechanical waste. No leak was initially found upon inspection, however one was visibly apparent after inspection as atf sprayed from an unknown source across both ends of the undercarriage after turning out of a parking lot and onto a main road. Atf began to burn off of vehicle creating a thick smoke, making it difficult for other drivers to see and they avoided consumer's vehicle. Consumer put her hazards on without the ability to accelerate regardless of how hard consumer pressed on gas. High rpms were noted then and the weeks prior. After attempting to park on a sloped residential driveway, the vehicle failed to go into gear and the parking brake was the only thing preventing it from rolling back down. Approximately 4.5 quarts of atf leaked and the vehicle was towed to repair facility where it awaits a suitable replacement transmission after diagnosis of transmission failure. Similarities between this and other incidents have been noted, and in previous instances, chrysler has blamed trim options (consumer's vehicle is a 4 cyl 2.5 l 3 speed automatic rio grande edition 4wd) as the reason for such issues- - - - - -however, jeep also advertised a "lifetime guarantee" relating to transmission performance. Forum users offer 60k miles as an acceptable definition of "lifetime" however this consumer believes such claims should be interpreted to be literal and repair or reimburse for those covered repairs under their guarantee. Approximate mileage was 101k.

The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the sway bar linkage had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure.
