• Recall 125940 [USA]: If the brake line melts, brake failure may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Ktm north america, inc. (ktm) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 1290 super adventure motorcycles manufactured december 1, 2014, to march 10, 2016, and 2013-2016 1190 adventure and adventure r motorcycles manufactured november 20, 2012, to april 25, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the wiring harness can fray and contact the abs modulator. If the brake line is electrically conductive, the brake line may overheat and melt.

  Ktm north america, inc. (ktm) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 1290 super adventure motorcycles manufactured december 1, 2014, to december 11, 2015. These motorcycles have a rear shock absorber that may leak oil from the rebound damping plug, resulting in a loss of shock function.
  ktm will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rebound damping plug for leaking and replace the shock absorber, as necessary, and install a new version of the suspension control unit software, free of charge.   It is possible there is a leak of hydraulic fluid at the plug of the semi-active shock absorber. A loss of hydraulic fluid can lead to a negative affect of the performance of the shock absorber handling of the machine and damage to the interior of the shock absorber.
  recall the machines that are likely to be affected and check for fluid leakage from the plug of the semi-active shock absorber. If there is visible leakage the shock absorber will be changed for a new unit and mounted with the original preload adjuster. If there is no leakage the original shock absorber can remain in please. In all cases check the software and update as necessary.

  Issue: on certain motorcycles, a manufacturing defect could cause the fuel tank to leak. Safety risk: leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, creates the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their motorcycle to a dealer to have the fuel tank inspected. If a fuel leak is found, the tank will be replaced. If no leak is present, the fuel tank cover mounting insert will be replaced with a corrected part.

• Recall 2016610 [Canada]: Brakes
  On certain motorcycles, an electrical connection can be created via the brake line between the anti-lock brake (abs) modulator and vehicle ground. If the wiring harness is frayed and contacts the abs modulator, there is a potential for the brake line to conduct electricity, causing overheating and ultimately melting the brake line. This can result in failure of the brake system circuit, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the wiring harness and re-position the wiring harness for the engine control unit.

  On certain motorcycles, oil may leak at the rebound damping plug on the rear shock absorber. Oil loss may result in damage to the interior of the shock, and could prevent proper suspension action, and could affect motorcycle stability and cause poor handling which may result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will update the suspension control unit (scu) software, and inspect the rebound damping plug. If oil leaks are found present, dealers will replace the rear shock absorber.

The 1290 sa comes equipped with side bags in the us, at highway speeds in middle and western states, the bags and mount design introduces a dangerous wobble. Ktm has offered a modified mounting system to cure this problem, at an additional cost. This looks to be a design flaw, that needs to be addressed. Some riders call this the death wobble

Traveling at highway speed on interstate 95 north and loss all electric power and motorcycle shut down and i coasted to the side of the road. Appeared that the on board computer system shut down into some type of safe mode.
