NHTSA Mandated Recalls
Recall R/2017/124 [UK]: Faulty control unit may cause vehicle to perform outside specification
Where a control unit coding was updated in a workshop between 3 december 2016 and 5 december 2016 the coding may not correspond to the specification and may trigger unplanned action in the vehicle. The safety and emissions systems may not react as design intent. recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and update the software in the corresponding control units.
Recall R/2015/120 [UK]: Passenger airbag may not function as intended
On affected vehicles a control unit under the front passenger seat may not have been correctly installed. This may adversely affect the seat occupancy recognition system. The seat occupancy recognition system may not correctly identify seat occupancy and may incorrectly activate or deactivate the air bag. Activation status will be notified by the passenger air bag warning system. check control unit installation and correct if necessary. Where necessary replace passenger seat cushion.
Recall R/2017/134 [UK]: Steering coupling may become loose
The threaded connection for the steering column coupling to the steering rack pinion may not be tightened correctly. Overtime time the connection could loosen and fall out allowing a situation where the steering control could be lost. recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and check the tightness of the threaded connection for the steering column coupling. Where necessary the joint will be removed and inspected. If not serviceable it will be replaced. A new threaded connection will be used where the tightness is not correct.
Recall R/2016/190 [UK]: Fuel may leak
A high pressure fuel line to the fuel pump may work looses and allow diesel to leak on affected vehicles replace fuel line
Recall R/2021/277 [UK]: The driver's air bag may have a chemical change to its propellant over time
The driver's airbag may have a chemical change to its propellant over time. replace the driver?S airbag.
Recall R/2021/358 [UK]: Takata airbag might not deploy as specified
Certain climatic conditions may cause a chemical change to the airbag propellants?Over time.? replace the driver and?Passenger airbags.?
Recall R/2021/359 [UK]: Takata airbag might not deploy as specified
Certain climatic conditions may cause a chemical change to the airbag propellants over time. replace the driver and passenger airbags.
Recall R/2020/200 [UK]: Certain specific calibrations of functions must be changed in the engine management
Certain specific calibrations of functions must be changed in the engine management of the vehicles update the diesel engine control unit software
Recall R/2017/282 [UK]: Electrical wiring in steering assembly may be insufficiently grounded
The steering column clock spring may break. This will cause warning messages to illuminate in the instrument cluster but in extreme instances it may cause the driver's airbag to deploy. affected vehicles will be recalled to establish sufficient grounding of the steering components.
Recall R/2018/098 [UK]: Steering components may be insufficiently grounded
It has been determined that the steering airbag electrical components are insufficiently grounded. Failure of the steering column module clock spring could result in an inadvertent deployment of the driver airbag which may cause risk of injury to the driver and an increased risk of a potential collision. on affected vehicles the manufacturer will fit a contact bridge to the outer race of the steering column top bearing which will provide correct grounding.
Recall R/2018/130 [UK]: Electrical wiring in steering assembly may be insufficiently grounded
The steering column clock spring may break. This will cause warning messages to illuminate in the instrument cluster but in extreme instances it may cause the driver's airbag to deploy. affected vehicles will be recalled to establish sufficient grounding of the steering components
Recall R/2020/243 [UK]: Engine control unit software to be updated
Improve the vehicle emissions via software updates. update the relevant control unit?S software and if necessary replace the nox sensors.
Recall R/2018/266 [UK]: To improve emissions of the affected vehicles.certain calibrations of functionalities must be changed in the engine management
Improve the vehicle emissions via software updates. update the diesel engine control unit software and add a supplementary booklet for the operator's manual
Recall R/2021/274 [UK]: Vehicles with a panoramic sunroof the polycarbonate panel may not have been bonded correctly during a prior service repair
The polycarbonate panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof may not have been bonded correctly during a prior service repair. remove the bonded panel and install a new polycarbonate panel if required.
Recall 2021514 [Canada]: Airbag
Issue: on certain vehicles, an incorrect passenger-front airbag may have been installed during a previous repair. As a result, the airbag may not inflate properly in a crash. Safety risk: an airbag that does not inflate properly can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective action: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to replace the passenger-front airbag.
Recall 2018741 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag module. Note: canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.
Recall 2018724 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.
Recall 2017490 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver's frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components. Note: a broken clock spring would result in a driver airbag warning message appearing in the instrument cluster, as well as a red airbag warning lamp illuminating.
Recall 2017209 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles, the steering coupling bolt connection may have been incorrectly torqued. The vibrations during vehicle operation could allow the nut to loosen and come off the retaining bolt. This could lead to a separation of the steering coupling from the steering shaft causing the vehicle to lose the ability to steer which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and torque the steering coupling bolt, as necessary.
Recall 2017145 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, an update provided between de 3rd and 5th of december 2016 to the vehicle control unit may have been incorrectly applied. This could affect the proper function of various safety systems such as airbag deployment sequence, seatbelts recognition status, speed limiter setting and others. These conditions could increase the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of a crash. Correction: dealers will update the affected control units.
