NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall R/2015/222 [UK]: Windscreen wipers may fail
Cabling may have been incorrectly routed and the wiper linkage could chafe the cabling causing a short circuit. If this happens the wiper motor could become inoperative.
on affected vehicles check cabling. Either rework or replace cabling as required.

  • Recall R/2016/150 [UK]: Threaded connection of the right rear seat belt end fitting may fail in a collision
Due to a deviation in the manufacturing process the retaining bolt for the right rear seal belt may not have been tightened to the correct specification. In the event of a collision the belt may fail.
where necessary rework threaded connection tighten securing bolt to correct specification.

  • Recall R/2016/139 [UK]: Engine may stall/stop unexpectedly
The engine may stop when braking from lower speeds right before the vehicle comes to a standstill. The concern might be interpreted by the driver as a planned engine stop as part of the automatic stop/start system and the engine will not restart after release of the brake pedal. Depending on traffic situation there could be an increased risk of collision.
recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and update the software.

  • Recall R/2017/148 [UK]: Steering power assist may deactivate
The connector on the electric power steering control unit may not be properly sealed against water entry. If water enters the control unit the power steering assistance can be lost. The steering assistance not working could increase the risk of collision.
recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the plug housing of the electric power steering.

  • Recall R/2018/206 [UK]: Oil foam may develop in the active curve system oil reservoir
It has been determined that on model series ml/gle gl/gls (166) & gle coupe (292) with active curve system (acs) oil foam may develop in the systems oil reservoir under dynamic operating conditions and at an oil level below the minimum level and escape via the ventilation bores in the cap of the reservoir. Depending on the orientation of the two ventilation bores the escaping oil could spray onto hot component parts of the exhaust system. In this case risk of fire cannot be ruled out.
on affected vehicles replace the oil dipstick of the reservoir for the active curve system.

  • Recall R/2019/307 [UK]: Software update required to improve emissions
Improve the vehicle emissions via software updates
update the diesel engine control unit software and add a supplementary booklet for the operator's manual. Check and replace n0x sensor if necessary.

  • Recall R/2019/256 [UK]: To achieve an improvement in the emissions via software updates
Improve the vehicle emissions via software updates.
update the diesel engine control unit software and add a supplementary booklet for the operator's manual

  • Recall R/2019/304 [UK]: Software update required to improve emissions
Improve the vehicle emissions via software updates.
update the diesel engine control unit software and add a supplementary booklet for the operator's manual. Check and replace nox sensor if necessary.

  • Recall R/2018/266 [UK]: To improve emissions of the affected vehicles.certain calibrations of functionalities must be changed in the engine management
Improve the vehicle emissions via software updates.
update the diesel engine control unit software and add a supplementary booklet for the operator's manual

  • Recall R/2017/267 [UK]: Engine ecu has not been corrctly programmed
Due to an error in the engine control unit software the engine may shut down when braking from slow speeds such as pulling up at traffic lights. This may also affect the vehicles eco start system. It will still be possible to manually restart the vehicle.
on affected vehicles update engine and transmission control units.

  • Recall 2018724 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

  • Recall 2018217 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles equipped with the active curve system (acs), the oil in the acs’s reservoir could start foaming under certain dynamic driving situations in combination with an oil level below minimum. The oil foam could leak out of the oil reservoir through the vent holes in the sealing cap and spray onto hot surface components of the exhaust system. This could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the acs reservoir for proper oil level and replace the sealing cap with an updated part.

  • Recall 2016512 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the engine control unit software may be incorrect. This would result in reduced engine performance of 300kw (600nm) instead of the specified 320kw (700nm) listed within vehicle certification documents. Correction: dealers will replace the engine control unit.
