Bulletins

Bulletins are notices put out by manufacturers in conjunction with the NHTSA to notify the public of manufacturing issues or changes.

  • FTLCAE189-2018 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC: Axial caliper mounting transition for air disc brakes
  • TP-1538 - BRAKES (PWS): Meritor : information regarding procedures for drum brakes on meritor trailer axles. *lj
  • PIL-602 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK: Meritor: information regarding the use of in line or gladhand filter to combat contaminants from entering and damaging the air system of anti-lock braking (abs)/roll stability support (rss) valve, resulting in reduction in performance.
  • PIL-563 - SUSPENSION: Meritor: new tubing replaces 3/8in. Nylon-12 air brake tubing, now on mpa suspensions with pinloc slider locking system and will be retrofitted with 1/4in. Push connect fittings accommodating new brake tubing diameter. *pe
  • TP-11145 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: Meritor wabco: bulletin providing information for replacement procedure for habs-d version motor. *pe
  • PIL-553 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:LOW PRESSURE WARNING:SWITCH: Meritor: the tractor trailer brake control line remains applied after the foot valve is released. This can caused increased break wear. In an unused cavity of the valve, an incorrect addition of a rubber diaphragm has been identified.
  • PIL-513 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: Meritor wabco: 1800 extended desiccant cartridge used on system saver 1200 air dryer. There has been interest (by end users) in retrofitting system saver 1200 air dryers with the extended desiccant cartridge used in system saver 1800 air
  • PIL-512 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: Meritor wabco: air dryers with coalescing cartridges. System saver air dryers are now available with desiccant cartridges that incorporate a coalescing filter. No model or model years listed. *pe
  • TP-0884 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:CALIPER: Meritor: caliper adjusting bolt inspection and caliper reconfiguration ex225 air disc calipers. Air disc caliper models ex225h201xx000 and ex225h202xx000 when used with the hendrickson firemax suspension. Model years unknown.
Known Recall Investigations
  • Diminished braking investigation # PE08058

Odi has reviewed complaint and background investigation information received from component suppliers (1) haldex and (2) meritor wabco and the principally-affected vehicle manufacturers. This information indicates that the seal material in certain air brake relay valves manufactured by haldex and distributed by meritor wabco may degrade prematurely and affect the valvefunction resulting in diminished vehicle braking performance (increased stopping distance).Haldex and meritor wabco investigations have associated the degraded seal condition with exposure to aerosol oil that has migrated through the air compressor and into the brake system. These companies maintain that changes in diesel engines and lubricants adopted to conform to increasingly stringent epa emissions requirements have created an adverse operating environment for the control valve as well asother brake system components.Odi observes that vehicle manufacturers are responsible for assessing changes in vehicle operating environments and the effects of these changes on the components that are integrated into their vehicle system and that vehicle manufacturers are responsible for specifying components that will function safely and reliably when integrated into the various vehicle systems.Odi also observes that the component design should anticipate adverse environments and incorporate designs that will assure that a failure of an affected component will be detected through reasonable maintenance surveillance before it exposes the affected vehicle and/or public to risk.Althoughno crashes, fatalities, injuries, or property damage incidents have been reported by any of the affected vehicle or component manufacturers, odi is concerned about the unexpectedly hazardous nature of this failure and after closing this initial investigation phase, will initiate individual investigations of the principally affected vehicle manufacturers.Odi has not summarized the complaint statistics from the reporting oems in this resume due to the potential that the sources and methods of data collection may vary across manufacturers.Rather, odi will summarize the complaint statistics associated with each affected vehicle oem on the successor pe resumes.
