We purchased an rv with a norcold n8xfl refrigerator new in may 2018. We began to have issues with the refrig not cooling, spontaneously around october/november 2018. The frig was continuously in the repair shop until we thought we discovered the issue of a defective circuit main board. Once this was replaced, the unit was not used much over the next 4-6 months. Leaving for a trip in july 2019, the unit failed to cool, but began to cool spontaneously. Again, repair shop could not pin point exact issue. Multiple calls and trips to the repair shop, and dealing with the manufacture, they had replaced multiple parts in the frig. Including the main cooling unit the frig. Still failed. The manufacturer decided to replace the unit. The new frig. Is installed. Upon arriving at the repair shop to pick up our camper with the new refrigerator, i examined the frig. To find that it seemed to cool on electric and gas operation. Once i left the facility to take my camper to my home, i was pulling onto my st, i noticed smoke coming from the side of my camper from the frig. Vent. I immediately pulled over, removed the vent cover, and saw a flame on the top of the gas valve. I used a water bottle to extinguish the fire. I called the repair shop immediately, and was advised to shut unit off and to send them pics as well as contact the manufacturer. After many calls to the manufacturer, i was able to speak with the fire claims dept and ed minor who is a supervisor. Ed stated, without seeing the valve in person that it appeared to be an install issue that damaged the valve, and not an issue with their refrig. And that they would not be replacing anything. I did not feel confident with his conclusion as this man had not seen it in person, ran any test on the unit, or physically examined the valve. I spoke with gail at the fire claims dept. With norcold, and she advised me to have another licensed repair facility to examine the frig and check the cause of the fire. *js

Our rv norcold refrigerator's alarm sounded. The fault says no co--no cooling unit. Norcold sent the high temperature sensor part as our refrigerator/cooling unit is under recall; it was installed by rv service center on 8/8/13. This week end out camping the alarm sounded again; it was reset by rv owner, but alarm sounded again. The owner can only reset it once after that it goes to rv service center for resetting. My claim number for norcold is 580811 for the part. We thought with the new part installed the alarm wouldn't go off again. Thanks. *tr

Norcold issued a recall at the end of last year for over heating and fires. I have had this repair done twice and the refrigerator failed to work for the 3rd time today. It is not easy to take this in for repairs and is very upsetting to not be able to use the motorhome and having to stop and cancel your trip and return home.Norcold needs to have a proper fix for this recall or replace refrigerator.
