Recall 2010226 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain buses, there may be interference within the v-bea multiplex communication network. Whenever the parking brake, or the vehicle's brake interlock is applied, the automatic traction control (atc) system's sensors could falsely detect the movement of a wheel. The atc system could misinterpret this situation as wheel spin, subsequently applying and releasing the applied brakes. The vehicle could then move unexpectedly and cause a crash resulting in property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: reprogramming procedures will be provided to affected vehicle fleet operators
Recall 2010389 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, incorrect bolts were used on the engine supports and have not been tightened to proper specifications. The bolts may wear prematurely and subsequently break. When some of the bolts break, vibration and noise is induced in the structure which will prompt the driver to check his vehicle. If all bolts were to break at same time, the engine will always be supported by one end of the structure and the other end will be supported by the drive shaft causing enormous vibration and noise alerting the driver to park his the vehicle immediately in a safe area. Correction: dealers will replace the engine mount fasteners.
Recall 2009050 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain transit buses, the main power cables could become damaged by rubbing against the ground cable. Chafing damage could cause an electrical short which may result in a vehicle fire. Correction: dealers will reroute the main ground cable.
Recall 2009200 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain buses, the main wiring harness relay may short circuit, which could cause the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will modify the relay by removing its ground tab.
Recall 2009349 [Canada]: Other
On certain buses, the led sign, mounted to the side of the bus to display destination message, could suffer electronic circuit board corrosion. This could cause an electrical short circuit, which could result in a fire causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: luminator will replace the electrical circuit connector board.
Recall 2008133 [Canada]: Other
On certain buses, rear door controls may function erratically when the operator cancels the opening of the rear doors by turning the door control lever to the neutral position. When the door is almost closed (approx. 80%) and a passenger approaches, the door initiates its closing cycle even as the infrared sensor is activated by the passenger. As a result, the passenger may be struck by the door panels, or become trapped between them, potentially resulting in personal injury. As well, the vehicle may start to move even though the door is not completely closed. Correction: owners will be provided with updated v-bea system software.
Recall 2008134 [Canada]: Heater and defroster
On certain buses, the auxiliary heater may suffer leakage past the fuel pump's rotary shaft seal. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a vehicle fire, causing personal injury or death. Correction: owners will be provided with instructions, and replacement burner heads.
Recall 2008146 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain buses, the main power cable may have been installed too close to the transmission. Should the cable retaining clamp fail, the cable could rub against the transmission, and suffer chafe damage. Electrical arcing could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will reroute the main power cable.
Recall 2008215 [Canada]: Other
Certain transit buses fail to comply with the requirements of cmvss 217 - bus window retention, release, and emergency exits. The emergency window may require greater force to open, than is allowed under the standard. Should an emergency situation arise, this may hinder evacuation efforts, and increase the risk of personal injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: dealers will affect repairs.
Recall 2008338 [Canada]: Wheels
On certain buses, the wheel mounting bolts are susceptible to losing their torque due to an excess of powder coated paint on the mounting points. Loose wheels could have resulted in poor vehicle handling and increased risk of a crash causing personal injuries. Correction: the affected wheels have been removed and replaced with new improved wheels.
Recall 2008441 [Canada]: Steering
On certain transit buses, the bolts that secure the steering miter box to the vehicle may too long. This could prevent proper application of the clamping load, allowing the bolts to loosen. A loss of steering control could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the bolts.
Recall 2022248 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
Issue: on certain buses, a message board on the rear of the bus displays momentary text when the stop lamps or turn signals are used. These momentary text messages could cause confusion for other road users. Safety risk: text messages about the stop lamps and turn signals that are displayed on the rear of the bus could cause confusion for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: nova bus will notify owners in writing and provide them with directions for removing the rear message board.
