• Recall 146480 [USA]: If the driver unknowingly operates the vehicle without the abs functioning, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
  Paccar incorporated (paccar) is recalling certain 2008-2019 peterbilt 330, 335, 337, 340, 348, 365, 367, 384, 386, 387, 388, 389, 567, 579 and 587 vehicles and 2008-2020 kenworth t170, t270, t370, t660, t680, t800, t880, and w900 vehicles equipped with namux software. In the event that the anti-lock brake system (abs) loses battery and/or ignition power to the controller, the dash warning light for the abs may not illuminate to warn the driver of the loss of abs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 121, "air brake systems," and 136, "electronic stability control system on heavy vehicles."

• Recall 112646 [USA]: If the seat belt anchor pulls away, the seat occupant may not be properly secured in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.
  Rush truck centers of texas, lp (rush), doing business as custom vehicle solutions, is recalling certain modified 2011-2016 peterbilt 337 trucks manufactured march 26, 2010, to march 9, 2015, modified 2013-2015 peterbilt 348 trucks manufactured may 14, 2012, to march 25, 2014, and modified 2014 peterbilt 382 trucks manufactured on november 1, 2013. The affected trucks, converted from conventional day cabs to crew cabs, may be equipped with seat belt anchorage assemblies that may come unanchored when under load. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."

• Recall 111041 [USA]: If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there is an increased risk of a fire.
  Paccar incorporated (paccar) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 kenworth t440, t800, and w900 trucks manufactured august 31, 2009, to april 20, 2015, and 2008-2015 peterbilt 320, 337, 348, 365, 382, and 384 trucks manufactured july 27, 2007, to april 28, 2015, and equipped with certain cummins westport isl g engines. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.
  cummins will notify owners on behalf of paccar, and cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ecm) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on june 12, 2015. • Recall 104283 [USA]: Without a warning of a problem existing in the side air bag system, the driver may continue to operate the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury from the side air bag not deploying in the event of a rollover.
  Paccar incorporated (paccar) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 peterbilt 579, 388, 384, 367, 365, 348, and 337 trucks manufactured october 30, 2009, through may 21, 2014. In the affected vehicles, if power is interrupted to the seat electronic control unit (ecu), such as when the fuse for that circuit blows, the side air bag would be disabled but there will not be a warning lamp indicator to notify the operator of the malfunction.

• Recall 95961 [USA]: Unexpected continuous brake application can cause the brakes to overheat and lead to a fire. unexpected continuous brake application can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. also, the brakes may be applied without illuminating the brake lights, failing to give proper warning to other drivers.
  Paccar is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 kenworth t170, t270, t370, t440, t470, t660, t700, t800, w900, and peterbilt 320, 330, 337, 348, 365, 367, 382, 384, 386, 388, 389, and 587 vehicles, manufactured from january 31, 2011, through january 19, 2012, and equipped with bendix atr-6 antilock traction relay valves. In extremely cold conditions, these bendix relay valves may potentially develop internal leakage. Internal leakage can lead to air pressure being delivered to affected primary or secondary brake causing continuous brake application.

• Recall 2020148 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
  Issue: on certain trucks, the warning light for the tractor anti-lock brake system (abs) may not turn on if the system loses power. If this happens, the driver will not get warning that the abs is not working properly. Note: this problem would also cause the traction control (tc) and electronic stability control (esc) lights not to turn on. Safety risk: if a driver is not warned that the abs is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective actions: paccar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the software for the cab control module (cecu).

  On certain vehicles equipped with michelin mn 295/60r22.5 xza-2 front tires, the programmed maximum vehicle speed may exceed the speed rating of the tire. This could result in premature tire failure to occur under certain operating conditions (higher speeds, load and road temperature). A tire failure could cause the driver to lose vehicle control, which may result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage.   On certain vehicles equipped with cummins westport isl-g engines, excessive engine crankcase pressure could cause the vent tube assembly elbow to detach from the breather. This could allow engine oil to come in contact with hot surfaces, increasing the risk of fire resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install clamps at both ends of the elbow of the breather tube assembly and reprogram the electronic control module (ecm) to improve diagnostic capabilities.

  On certain vehicles, a wiring defect could cause the airbag warning lamp to fail to illuminate in the event of a fault with the side curtain airbag system.   On certain trucks equipped with bendix atr-6 antilock traction relay valves, in extremely cold conditions (at or below -18 degrees celsius), internal atr valve leakage can occur. This could cause unintended brake application, which could overheat the affected brakes and cause a fire. Also, in certain low traction conditions, unexpected brake application can cause a loss of vehicle control and a crash. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will update the cover assembly on the atr valves.

• Intermittent loss of power steering assist investigation # PE20006

  On may 1, 2020, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe20006 to investigate complaints of intermittent loss of power steering assist in daimler truck north america (dtna), volvo trucks of north america (volvo) and paccar vehicles equipped with a zf/trw (trw) thp60 steering gear.  the investigation focused on 2010-2020 dtna freightliner cascadia, m2 and wst; volvo vn, vah and vhd and paccar 337, 365, 389, 567, 579 model vehicles.Field reports and interviews with fleet drivers allege that high power steering fluid temperatures could result in internal seal and bearing failures causing pressure fluctuation, affecting left and right-hand turns.  the inability of the driver to steer the vehicle as intended can increase the risk of a crash and injury. Odi analyzed data provided by trw, dtna, volvo, and paccar in response to individual information request letters.Odi found that most failures occurred within the first two years and/or 50,000 miles of service.  the claim rate decreased with time and miles in service and remained less than 0.5%. Odi normalized data from each of the manufacturers and determined that there was not a substantial difference in the failures.Additionally, trw improved a seal in the steering gear in december 2015.Trucks built on or after 2016 (as 2017 and newer model years) show a decreasing trend of failures. In view of the overall low failure rate, the nature of early-life failure, and failure rate trending downward for model years 2017 and newer, this preliminary evaluation (pe) is closed.  the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
