• Recall 83874 [USA]: If the area in question fractures or breaks, this could cause an unstable driving condition, possibly resulting in a crash.
  Curt mfg is recalling certain class 3 receiver hitches, p/n 13347, sold as aftermarket equipment for use on 1997-2007 chrysler town and country vans, 1996-2007 dodge caravans, and 1996-2004 plymouth voyager vans. When the hitch is loaded to the maximum rating, the hitch may fracture or break at the bend location where the main body of the hitch meets the hitch muffler strap.

  Certain curved tempered replacement glass manufactured by hangzhou safety glass ltd and supplied to safelite by auto temp inc., identified as dot-430, and sold for use on certain domestic and foreign vehicles may not break into small pieces as expected of tempered glass and fails to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 205, "glazing materials."

• Recall 46590 [USA]: Fuel restriction could result in loss of power and/or engine stall, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
  Certain airtex fuel pump modules, p/nos. E7089m, e7094m, e7113m, and e7129m, manufactured between june 1 and september 24, 2006. These fuel pump modules were sold as aftermarket for use in certain daimlerchrysler vehicles listed above. Silicone material used in manufacture of the flapper valve was out-of-specification, leading to excess swell of the flapper valve restricting the flow of fuel to the fuel pump module.

• Recall 59358 [USA]: Loss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
  Certain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. These brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. Only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. When subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.

• Recall 41124 [USA]: This condition will manifest itself through illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and could eventually result in a driver's air bag open circuit, if the part is not replaced in a reasonable amount of time.
  On certain minivans, the driver's air bag may become disabled due to a failure of the clockspring, which is located in the hub of the steering wheel.
  dealers will replace the clockspring assembly on all covered vehicles with 70,000 miles or less. For those vehicles with more than 70,000 miles, daimlerchrysler will offer an extended lifetime warranty under which it will replace the clockspring at no charge if it fails. Daimlerchrysler will also reimburse owners who have paid to have the clockspring replaced on their vehicles. The recall began on october 12, 2004. • Recall 5412 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
  Vehicle description: mini vans built with 3.3l and 3.8l engines have fuel rails with nitrole rubber o-ring seals that can degrade over time. Fuel leakage from the underhood fuel injection fuel rail could result, increasing the likelihood of a vehicle fire.
  dealers will install a seal on the vehicle fuel rails to prevent external leakage of fuel from the fuel rail crossover tube, should the existing o-rings continue to degrade. Owner notification began on january 25, 2002. Due to the large quantity of vehicles involved in this campaign, the owner notification will be phased over the next several months. However, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the o-rings, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.   On certain vehicles equipped with the 3.3l or 3.8l engine the nitrile "o-ring" seals used in the fuel rail may degrade over time and extended exposure to elevated temperatures. This could result in fuel leakage, and, in the presence of an ignition source, an underhood fire could occur. Correction: external seals will be installed at both of the fuel rail crossover tube joints. If the crossover tube joints are leaking or red rust exists in the area, the fuel rail assembly must be replaced.

  The driver air bag clockspring can develop an open-circuit condition resulting in nonfunctional driver-side frontal air bag, horn, cruise control (if equipped), and/or steering wheel radio control (if equipped).In its october 5, 2004 letter to nhtsa, daimlerchrysler stated that it will conduct a safety recall and replace the clockspring assembly on all my 1998.5-2000 daimlerchrysler minivans, built between march 1998 and august 2000, with 70,000 miles or less.It will also provide a lifetime warranty for this component on my 1998.5-2000 minivans, regardless of mileage.The details of the corrective action are described in daimlerchryslers letter (see recall no. 04v-480).The agency believes that further expenditure of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists with respect to those vehicles covered only by the lifetime warranty.The agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.See page 2 for additional information.

• Rear seat belt malfunction investigation # PE02004

  This investigation was opened january 16, 2002, based on seven reports alleging the third row seat belt retractors failed on certain 1997 and 1998 model year caravan and voyager vehicles.The reports indicated a "tar" like substance entered the retractor mechanism, thus causing the retractor to jam or bind.In this condition the seat belt is rendered inoperable, as the webbing cannot retract or be withdrawn from the retractors for use.Recall scope:the affected vehicles are 1997 through 1999 dodge caravan, plymouth voyager, and chrysler town & contry built on a short wheel base chassis.The inclusive dates of production are june 1996 through october 31, 1999.Recall remedy: daimlerchrysler dealers will replace the mastic sound barrier patches with foam "blockers", as well as, inspect and replace all third row rear seat belt assemblies contaminated by the mastic patch.

The 1998 plymouth voyager passenger van was involved in a two vehicle collision on a public highway. Cause of the collision was due to the other involved vehicle, that being a 2011 kia soul, failing to stay within its travel lane. The kia crossed over into the path of the plymouth voyager, with both vehicles colliding, front/left vs front/left. Speeds of both vehicles estimated at approximately 40 miles per hour. Both air bags in the kia deployed, as did the front/passenger airbag in the plymouth voyager. The driver's airbag in the plymouth voyager failed to deploy, unknown why. Both drivers sustained injuries in the collision. The collision was investigated by the montgomery township police department, phone 215-362-2301, police report #2016-00578.

1998 plymouth voyager left and right front towers are consumed by corrosion exposing the strut assemblies and severely weakening the load bearing structure causing serious risk of strut tower failure as on or both struts will penetrate into the engine compartment causing the front of the vehicle to drop to the ground. Should such failure occur while the vehicle is in motion at highways speeds, loss of vehicle control will result, causing serious injury or death. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1998 plymouth voyager. While driving at 45 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated and the cruise control failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 140,000. The vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 1998 plymouth voyager. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph during inclement weather, the serpentine belt slipped off the pulley, causing the battery warning light to illuminate. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 103,000.

1989 plymouth voyager left and right front towers are consumed by corrosion exposing the mcpherson strut assemblies and severely weakening the load bearing structure causing serious risk of strut tower failure as on or both struts will penetrate into the engine compartment causing the front of the vehicle to drop to the ground. Should such failure occur while the vehicle is in motion at highways speeds, loss of vehicle control will result, causing serious injury or death. This is a known defect covered by chrysler corporation in a technical service bulletin (tsb) labeling the problem as merely cosmetic. *tr

The belt slips off in the rain causing power failure to everything running off the belt. No power steering, no cooling system, no electrical charging, no a/c, and i believe the brakes didn't work right. *tr

Another 1998 plymouth voyager van with the rear brake lines broken. Happened on the road, brakes worked and less than 3 miles down the road when driver attempted a turn, brakes went to the floor. Driver was able to park the vehicle. Vehicle was driven home by husband using front brakes only where the broken lines were discovered. With no apparent reason for the corrosion, research reveals multiple incidents on mid to late 90s' plymouth vans with corroded or rusted rear brake lines. I will replace with aftermarket parts to avoid repeat failure. *tr

Drove through a puddle. Serpentine belt fell off, causing loss of power steering. Completed repair as per tsb 07-02-99. Did not correct issue. A known issue with 1996 - 2000 plymouth/dodge caravans 3.3l and 3.8l. Very dangerous, happens on wet/snow conditions. Bottom third of harmnic balancer is not guarded from road moisture. Chrysler redesigned in 2001. Gates after market kit solves problem gat 38379k, cost $120-$220 with out labor. Does this meet the criteria for a recall? *tr

An authorized dealer confirmed the diagnosis. The contact called the manufacturer and was unable to speak with anyone. The approximate failure and current mileages were 57,000.
