Complaint Information: OBD II Codes

NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 2021385 [Canada]: Other
Issue: on certain fire trucks, the pump shift solenoid may become corroded and fail. If this happens, power to the pump control module may be lost, and the vehicle may not shift into pump mode. Safety risk: a loss of power to the pump control module can cause a loss of water pressure for fighting fires. This could delay emergency response and increase the risk of injury. Corrective actions: spartan fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the pump shift solenoid.

  • Recall 2015310 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain fire trucks, front tire valve stems may wear against the brake calipers, potentially resulting in a leak and tire air loss without warning while the vehicle is in motion. This could affect vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace valve stems.

  • Recall 2015289 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the engine cooling fan may crack and lead to the separation of the fan blades without warning, potentially causing personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the engine cooling fans.

  • Recall 2014579 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles, the castle nuts for the steering linkage ball joint fasteners, which mount to the bell cranks, may have been improperly tightened during assembly. If the castle nuts were to come completely loose, the steering linkage may separate from the bell cranks without warning. This could result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the castle nuts, and if necessary, tighten them to the proper specification.

  • Recall 2014532 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles equipped with a wabco quick release with double check valves, used to control park/spring brake application, the valve may leak internally. This could cause unintended partial or full park/spring brake application, which could affect service brake function and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will affect repairs.

  • Recall 2014444 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 208 - occupant protection. Seat belts installed at certain seating positions may not have an adjustment range that is sufficient to restrain a 5th percentile adult female, contrary to the requirements of the standard. This would increase the potential for injury to certain seat occupants in a crash. Correction: dealers will install replacement shorter-length seat belt buckles.

  • Recall 2014364 [Canada]: Engine
On chassis cabs equipped with a pressure governor or hand throttle, a software defect could cause a surge in engine speed without warning when the fire apparatus is in "pump mode". Increased engine speed could cause an increase in water pressure at the end of the fire hose, which could increase the risk of personal injury. Correction: dealers will update the software.

  • Recall 2014355 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles equipped with cummins isb or isl engines, the fuel filter shell and nut plate could separate, causing a fuel leak and also causing the engine to stall. Stalling would result in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the fuel filter.

  • Recall 2013223 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain fire trucks, the restraint control module could malfunction and inadvertently deploy the frontal airbags, side curtain airbags and/or seatbelt pretensioners. Unintended seatbelt pretensioner and/or airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: dealers will install a transient noise suppression device to the restraint control module wiring harness.

  • Recall 2013066 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain fire trucks, an electrical short in the advanced protection system (aps) could result in an inadvertent deployment of the frontal airbags, side curtain airbags and/or seatbelt pretensioners. Correction: dealers will install an in-line jumper wiring harness to correct the issue.

  • Recall 2012437 [Canada]: Other
On certain vehicles, the outside diameter of the windshield wiper pivot shaft is smaller than the inside diameter of the wiper arm. As a result, the wiper pivot shaft could spin in the wiper arm, rendering the windshield wipers inoperable. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the windshield wiper shaft assembly.
