Thor motor coach (thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with kidde plastic-handle or push button 'pindicator' fire extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.Nhtsa.Gov/odi/rcl/2017/rmisc-17v758-5764.Pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Recall 94446 [USA]: If the inlet or outlet sections disconnect, hot exhaust gases can vent prior to exiting the tailpipe, creating the risk of combustion and a fire. if both clamps fail, there is a risk in some applications that the doc/dpf housing may detach completely, creating a road hazard.
Thor motor coach (tmc) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 tuscany, astoria, and avanti recreational vehicles manufactured from january 21, 2011, through september 16, 2011, equipped with a cummins isx or isl diesel engine. A fracture or failure of the t-bolt may cause the clamp to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections attached to the doc/dpf housing to disconnect. tmc is working with cummins to identify and notify owners of the recall campaign. Repairs will be performed by authorized cummins dealers free of charge. The safety recall began october 10, 2011. Recall 2018228 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles built on a freightliner xbr chassis, a rubber-coated braided power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. This could cause the power steering hose to rub against the stud on the starter motor, which could cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. A power steering leak in the presence of an electrical arc could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. A power steering fluid leak could also require additional steering effort which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: daimler trucks of north america service facilities will reroute the power steering hose to ensure proper clearance to starter stud.
Recall 2017613 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain motorhomes equipped with kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by kidde directly. Note: for more information about recalled fire extinguishers, please visit www.Kidde.Com.
Recall 2015529 [Canada]: Structure
On certain motorhomes equipped with lippert components inc. Electric entry steps, an internal bolt on the steps that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps could fracture. This results in the fan gear disengaging from the steps, which could cause the steps to stop in an unexpected position and appear to be loose or unstable. If the steps become unstable, it could cause a person to fall, resulting in injury. Correction: dealers will install a step retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, and all bolts of the mechanism will also be replaced.
Recall 2012435 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the connector for the brake and cruise control signal diode jumper assembly may come loose, resulting in a possible intermittent or continuously open circuit. Two circuits are potentially affected. One circuit disengages the cruise control with brake pedal application, and the other circuit illuminates the brake lights with brake application. Failure of the cruise control to disengage, or of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed, could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will verify that the locking tabs on the diode jumper assembly connector are fully engaged and locked into place.
Recall 2011374 [Canada]: Engine
On certain motorhomes equipped with a cummins engine, the v-band clamps used to connect the inlet and outlet cone sections to the diesel oxidation catalyst (doc) / diesel particulate filter (dpf) include a t-bolt which can fracture and fail when subjected to stress or load. A fracture or failure of the t-bolt may cause the clamp to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections attached to the doc/dpf housing to disconnect. Should this occur, hot exhaust gases can vent prior to exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion or damage to adjacent materials, which could result in a vehicle fire. If both clamps fail, the doc/dpf housing could detach completely, separate from the vehicle, and strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: cummins will install updated v-band clamps.
Recall 2011307 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain motorhomes, an undersized thermal breaker (10 amp) may have been installed in the windshield wiper motor circuit during vehicle assembly. Heavy loads such as high winds, heavy rain, snow, or a dry windshield, could cause the wipers to fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the existing breaker with a 15 amp version.
