• Recall 117449 [USA]: Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.
  Tiffin motorhomes (tiffin) is recalling certain model year 2007-2015 motorhomes manufactured may 1, 2007, to december 31, 2014, equipped with certain coachstep double and triple electric steps. The bolt that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may become unstable.
  dealers will install a retainer bracket on the double step assemblies and the coachstep linkage assembly will be replaced and a retainer bracket will be installed on the trip step assemblies. Hydraulic brake equipped motorhome chassis exposed to long periods of time of non-driving may experience diametrical brake caliper piston growth and reduced piston to bore clearance potentially leading to brake drag and overheating resulting in reduced brake performance.

• Recall 88048 [USA]: The temperature increase at the wheel end can eventually lead to soft pedal conditions due to brake fluid boil, and possible extended stopping distance increasing the risk of a crash.
  Navistar is recalling certain model year my 2001-2008 workhorse w20, w21 and w22 chassis and certain model year 2009 through 2011 monaco rv admiral, arista, monarch, and riptide recreational vehicles equipped with axles that include bosch zops or zoht pin slide hydraulic disc brakes. When combined with occasional or seasonal vehicle operation may experience calipers sticking in the applied position. This can result in abnormal heat generation at the wheel end causing brake drag. The driver would normally have warning of the brake drag if undetected by the driver.

• Recall 79883 [USA]: Release of coolant under certain conditions could ignite and result in a fire.
  Tiffin is recalling 3,507 my 2004-2007 allegro, allegro bay and allero bus, my 2004-2005 phaeton and my 2005-2007 zephyr motor homes equipped with a two-door refrigerator manufactured by the dometic corporation. The refrigerator may have a defect in the boiler tube. Pressurized coolant solution could be released into an area where an ignition source (gas flame) is present.
  tiffin will be working with dometic in order to repair these refrigerators (please see 08e032). Dometic will repair these refrigerators by installing a secondary burn housing, a thermal fuse, and a melt fuse free of charge. Dometic has retained stericycle inc. To manage this campaign. Stericycle will assist the owner in locating dealerships or service centers and will provide assistance with scheduling of appointments. • Recall 72887 [USA]: The operator may notice higher required steering wheel inputs, or the need for more steering wheel adjustments while driving in a straight line in combination with metallic cracking noises prior to a loss of steering. loss of steering could result in a vehicle crash.
  Certain motor homes built on freightliner chassis and equipped with zf model 8018 steering gears may have been assembled with the incorrect recirculating ball spacer. This could potentially allow the recirculating balls to escape from the recirculating ball circuit resulting in a loss of steering.

• Recall 90422 [USA]: Each vehicle could potentially experience a unique circumstance where one or a combination of the following conditions could occur: loss of electrical power to the engine, transmission, starting and engine cooling systems, operation of the right chassis stop/turn signal and right trailer stop/turn signal, the anti-lock brake system, auxiliary brake system, the heater elements in the air dryer, and the heater element in the water-in-fuel separator.
  On certain motor home chassis, there may be a loose connection between the bus bar and a grid pad due to the pins being slightly smaller diameters after assembly. We were traveling in the south pass of big horn national park. The grades were long and steep. A person passed us and pulled over and stoped us and said we were on fire. The coach filled with smoke nd i got out and found that the area above the exaust pipe had melted down on to the pipe catching on fire and burning up everything in the compartment causeing $3000.00 of damage. On my older moterhome it had heat sheilds above the exaust to prevent this. All the other brands i have looked at have also made provisions to prevent this from happening. I have also looked at other motorhoms like mine and some of them are at higer risk than mine. I have talked to tiffin but they seem to be "oh well" about the issue. I think all of this model ahould be checked and measures taken. The people that helped me out on that mountain said i was not the only one that has had this problem but i don't know what kind of motorhomes they were.

Complete failure of a carlile parking brake system. Motor home rolled down my driveway. Parts are no longer available to repair. Motor home had to be converted to a manual parking system and the allison transmission had to be modified (retrofitted) by the installation of a parking pawl. Freightliner corp. Was very aware of this problem, immediately saying they would pay for their parts. I was responsible for labor and all costs to allison. Family motor coach had a forum where this very issue was discussed. Still no recall. I am a widow, traveling alone. This is a safety hazard; what if the coach had rolled and killed someone? Who would be responsible? I should not have to pay the full cost of this repair when this is blatant neglect and no fault of mine. Updated 06/15/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 tiffin allegro bay. The vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 12v327000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, while driving approximately 55 mph, the speed decreased after the brake warning indicator illuminated. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal to the floor and was able to pull over. The motor home was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the parking brake and the brake calipers failed and needed to be replaced. The motor home was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

I took my motor home out for a short drive because it had been sitting for about month. Every thing went fine for the first 5 or 6 miles. I then noticed as i let off the gas pedal that it appeared to be slowing down extremely fast on some stops. It did not do it on all stops. I was already on my way back to storage yard when i noticed that the brake pedal didn't seem right. It was going down farther then usual. The abs light came on about a mile from the yard. I stopped and got out to check and smelled the brakes were warm. There was no smoke. I had the motor home towed to a repair facility where they told me the brakes had stuck on and pretty much ruined everything. I only traveled maybe 8 or 9 miles. The total cost of a brake job and the towing cost me 8248 dollars. I had only owned this motorhome since june of this year. *js

This is a 38' motorhome built on a freightliner front engine diesel chassis. This chassis has hydraulic brakes (not air brakes). Brakes failed while exiting a freeway - narrowly avoiding a crash. Returning home from a week away in an rv resort. Stopped for fuel about 10 miles from home. Noticed a smell of hot brakes, but nothing else unusual. Did a complete walkaround after fueling - all normal. About 8 miles later, when exiting the freeway, the brake pedal went completely to the floor with no effect. The engine brake was engaged quickly and after some rapid pumping on the pedal, got enough brake effect that i could avoid a crash at the end of the ramp and made it safely to a place to stop and get off the road. Upon walkaround, there was an extreme smell of hot brakes, heavy brake dust inside rear rims, and a puddle of hydraulic fluid (about 1 quart) under the master cylinder. Note that there was no downhill or other extended braking prior. Vehicle was parked overnight. After calling for a tow in the morning and returning to the coach, there was enough pedal to navigate the coach to a place accessible to the tow truck and it was towed to a freightliner service center. The service center found that there was obvious signs of overheating. Rear abs sensors were melted from heat. Pads and rotors destroyed. Troubleshoot system and found no problems other than apparently rear caliper pistons had stuck, causing brakes to drag, overheating the system, resulting in failure. Upon posting my experience on a tiffin web site, i learned that there are dozens of coaches that have had same experience. Freightliner knows about it - they instructed service center to use special grease to lube caliper (grease used for aircraft applications). Apparently same brake calipers subject of recall in gm workhorse chassis for motorhomes. Significant safety issue-lucky to avoid crash! *tr

Brakes overheated, burned out abs sensors, locked up rear brakes. This rv has bosch brakes installed, and workhorse chassis rv's have a recall for moisture getting in the brake system and heating up and not releasing the brakes. Freightliner or any rv company with bosch brakes needs to issue a recall before some gets killed or hurt,[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 tiffin allegro bay motor home. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the abs warning light would illuminate and the brake pedal would go straight down onto the floorboard. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. Had stopped for fuel after driving approximately 150 miles. Smelled burning but walk around and observation found nothing. Drove approximately 10 miles further and pushed brake pedal to stop. Pedal went all the way to floor. Pumping the brakes vigorously restored some braking. Was able to finish trip (approximately 1 block further) driving very slowly until unit parked in storage lot. During this small distance vehicle felt like brake was locked on - as if emergency brake did not release. Upon disembarking passenger outside tire was smoking and very hot. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 tiffin allegro bay rv. The contact stated while driving downhill at approximately 40 mph, the contact attempted to brake but to no avail. The brake pedal fell into the floorboard and he had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the rear calipers would need to be replaced. The repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were approximately 30,000.
