  Corrosion due to road salt may prevent the hood latch and the safety catch from working properly. This could result in hood fly-up while the vehicle is in motion resulting in obscured driver vision and a possible crash. Correction: owners of affected vehicles will be advised by mail regarding the necessity for periodic lubrication of the engine hood latch mechanism. Dealers will be advised to lubricate the engine hood mechanism whenever an affected vehicle is being serviced.

  The fuel tank could develop a hairline crack adjacent to a small section of seam weld at the rear of the tank. Should this happen, fuel could seep out which could result in fire in the event of a rear end collision. Correction: vehicles will be inspected and fuel tanks will be replaced if necessary.

Dt: contact received nhtsa campaign recall 91v201000 concerning fuel system/gas storage tank assembly in 2000-2001. He took the car to dealer, and the gas tank was replaced. Afterwards, consumer was having a lot of problems with the car. He was not having problems with the gas tank leaking prior to having it replaced. After the gas tank was replaced under the recall gas tank started leaking gas and continued to leak. It got progressively worse over the last year and a half to two years. Also, had driving problems/stalling. Consumer took vehicle back to the dealer, they inspected the car and said that the car had a bad leak somewhere on top of the tank. But could not tell consumer why it was leaking. The car has never been in a wreck. He changed the fuel filter, and still had the same problem with gas leaking from the tank. The dealer wante dto charge contact $500.00 to pull the gas tank out and see what the problem might be. Volkswagon. Told the dealership that if the gas tank that was replaced in 2001 had the same defect as the original tank they would pay for it. But if not, then contact would have to pay for it. Contact did not want to pay $500.00 for to find out what the problem was. *ak

The fuel tank cracked and now fuel is leaking out of the tank. There was a recall on this year but dealer said that it was not on my vehicle. *ak

While in vehicle noticed gas smell . Also puddle under vehicle . Notified of a recall91v201000 dealing with fuel tank leakage. But manufacturer will not repair vehicle. *ak
