SB-10045219-2096 Service Bulletin Applies To: 12-015 May 22, 2012 2009–10 TSX – Check the iN VIN status for eligibility Product Update: Roof Molding Is Loose BACKGROUND In high winds, the roof molding may lift in the middle, allowing either its front or rear retention clip to come loose. WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION Operation Number: 8140B2 Flat Rate Time: 0.3 hour Failed Part: P/N 74306-TL0-G01 CLIENT NOTIFICATION All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this product update. An example of the client notification is at the end of this service bulletin. Defect Code: 5NR00 Symptom Code: S0500 Skill Level: Repair Technician Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible. NOTE: Do not submit the Konishi Bond as a replacement part. Please submit under materials. Since one tube of Konishi Bond repairs six vehicles, the cost of the material should equal 1/6 of the dealer net cost. Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory. These vehicles must be repaired before they are sold. CORRECTIVE ACTION Apply Konishi Bond adhesive to the front and rear retaining pins on the body. If a roof molding is damaged or missing, install a new one. PARTS INFORMATION Left Side Roof Molding: P/N 74316-TL0-E00 Right Side Roof Molding: P/N 74306-TL0-E00 REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Apply protective tape to the body. 1. Using the appropriate trim tool, slide the roof molding rearward to release the front bracket from the pin and pull up on the front portion of the molding. TRIM TOOL 2 PROTECTIVE TAPE REQUIRED MATERIALS Konishi Bond: P/N 08713-0008 (one tube will repair about six vehicles) 1 ROOF MOLDING PIN FRONT BRACKET 2. Inspect the front bracket. • If the bracket comes off the roof molding or the molding is damaged, remove the molding and go to step 6 to install a new roof molding. • If the bracket is OK, go to step 4. © 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved BTB 47648 (1205) 1 of 3 CLIENT INFORMATION: The information in this bulletin is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely maintain your vehicle. To determine whether this information applies, contact an authorized Acura automobile dealer. 3. At the rear of the molding, pull up and release the rear bracket from the pin. 6. Apply a 50 mm bead of Konishi Bond to the front and rear pins as shown until the pins on the body are completely covered. 2 1 REAR BRACKET PIN 4. Inspect the rear bracket. • If the bracket comes off the roof molding or the molding is damaged, remove the molding and go to step 6 to install a new roof molding. • If the bracket is OK, go to step 6. 5. Clean the roof molding and the front and rear pins on the body using a shop towel dampened in water. NOTE: Do not use any chemical cleaner as it may damage the paint. 2 of 3 12-015 7. Reinstall the old roof molding or install the new roof molding immediately after applying the Konishi Bond. NOTE: The Konishi Bond adhesive can skin within seconds of exposure to air. Apply the roof molding immediately after applying the adhesive to ensure proper adhesion 8. Repeat steps 1 thru 8 for the other roof molding. What is the reason for this notice? On some 2009–10 TSX vehicles, a manufacturing problem with the roof molding may allow the molding to come loose. What should you do? Call any authorized Acura dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle inspected. The dealer will replace or repair the roof moldings. This work will be done free of charge. Please plan to leave your vehicle for a full day to allow the dealer flexibility in scheduling. Lessor information.
