Introduction
Some 2007 - 20 12 model year Tundra vehicles may exhibit a rubbing or grinding noise from the rear
when maki ng left or right turns. New parking brake plate sub-assemblies have been developed to
address this condition.

Repair Procedure
1. Test drive the vehicle and confirm the condition by making left and right hand turns.
2. Once the condition has been confirmed, place the
vehicle on the lift, remove the rear wheels and
rear rotors and check for any irregular contact on
the brake plate from the rotors.

3. If there appears to be irregular contact from the rotor to the brake plate, replace all parts
specified in the Special Service Part Bearing Kit (including the parking brake backing plate).

4. Settle the parking brake shoe and disc.
A. Drive the vehicle for approximately 0.25 miles (400 m) under the following conditions:
(1) Drive the vehicle at approximately 31 mph (50 km/h) on a level, dry road.
(2) Depress the parking brake pedal.

Repair Procedure (Continued)
B. Repeat the procedure above 2 or 3 times.
C. Stop and depress the parking brake. The ve hicle should hold position with 6 - 9 clicks
of travel.
5. Test drive the vehicle once more and make left and right hand turns to confirm there is no
more noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.
