Normal Propeller Shaft Conditions on All-Wheel Drive Vehicles (AWD)

This PI is being revised to add the 2013 and 2014 model years. Please discard PI0602.
Dealers may diagnose the following two conditions on propeller shafts on the above vehicles as concerns or issues
during incidental service of the propeller shaft for other conditions.

1. The rear flange yoke on the propeller shaft may exhibit a “notchy” feeling in the U-joint as it is actuated. The
technician should look for obvious looseness in the joint or seizure of the joint beyond the “notchy” feeling during
joint actuation. This can be wrongly diagnosed as a brinelled bearing. These propeller shaft conditions that may
appear to be product defects or issues with durability are actually normal conditions.

2. The front CV joint has a vent in the center of the cap that may expel grease if the propeller shaft is heavily
compressed at the front CV joint during service. This grease expulsion under these conditions is normal and
does not cause any significant loss to the joint.
Do not replace the propeller shaft for any of these conditions as they are normal.
