BACKGROUND
The service information is missing the replacement procedures for the main flap unit.

PROCEDURE
Removal
1. Remove the fuel fill door adapter (Civic only). Refer to the service information.
2. Prepare the mis-fuel inhibit device for removal.

Civic: Break the six lock tabs.

Pilot: Break the four lock tabs then turn the mis-fuel inhibit device clockwise.
3. Remove the mis-fuel inhibit device.
NOTE: Never reuse the mis-fuel inhibit device.

Civic: Pry up the lock tab, then pull the mis-fuel inhibit device straight off the filler neck.

Pilot: Pull the mis-fuel inhibit device off the filler neck and toward the rear of the vehicle.
4. Set the capless wrench and slightly turn the main flap unit counterclockwise.
NOTE: The main flap unit may only move a small amount. This is normal.

5. Remove the capless wrench and install the flapper retainer onto the main flap unit as shown to keep the flap open.
6. Insert the capless pick under the lock tab and release the lock by turning the pick counterclockwise.
NOTE: The lock tab is unlocked when it folds inside the filler neck opening.
7. Set the capless wrench onto the main flap unit as shown.
NOTE: It may be necessary to move the flapper retainer slightly to install the capless wrench.
8. Turn the main flap unit clockwise until it stops, then remove it.
NOTE: If the lock tab was disengaged properly, the main flap unit should turn easily. If you feel resistance, remove
the capless wrench and confirm that the lock tab was disengaged.

Installation
1. Position the new main flap unit onto the filler neck with the top arrow at the 1 o’clock position.
2. Install the main flap unit by doing the following:

Set the capless wrench onto the main flap unit.
While pressing down on the capless wrench, turn the main flap unit counterclockwise until you hear a click.
The arrow on the main flap unit should face up.
Slightly turn the capless wrench clockwise to confirm that the lock tab is engaged. The main flap unit should
not turn.

3. Install the new mis-fuel inhibit device by pressing into place until the lock tabs engage.

4. Reinstall the remaining removed parts.
