16-050 Service Bulletin July 8, 2016 04145 Version 1 Squeak From the Front Suspension AFFECTED VEHICLES Year Model 2015–16 Odyssey Trim ALL VIN Range ALL SYMPTOM There is a squeak from the front suspension when going over bumps. POSSIBLE CAUSES Damper oil from the assembly has contaminated the bump stop rubber. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace both front rubber bump stops. A Skill Level: Alignment- add 0.4 hr Repair Technician DIAGNOSIS 1. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the noise is coming from the front suspension. If the noise is coming from the front suspension, go to step 2. If the noise is not coming from the front suspension, continue with normal troubleshooting. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Remove the left front damper assembly. See the service information for more details. 2. Compress the damper spring, then remove the self-locking nut while holding the damper shaft with a hex wrench. Do not compress the damper spring more than necessary to remove the self-locking nut. 3. Release the pressure from the spring compressor. Page 2 of 7 4. Remove the damper mounting base, damper mounting bearing, upper spring seat, dust cover, rubber bump stop, damper spring, and lower spring rubber from the damper. Page 3 of 7 5. Replace the rubber bump stop. 6. Make sure the damper rod and damper cap are clean and clear of any residual oil or grease. Reassemble the damper assembly. 7. Reattach the dust boot to the damper cap. Page 4 of 7 8. Install a new self-locking nut and torque it to (without damper mounting washer type) 70 N·m (52 lb-ft), (with damper mounting washer type) 57 N·m (42 lb-ft). 9. Loosely install the damper assembly with the new upper flange nut. Page 5 of 7 10. Loosely install new damper pinch bolts and new flange nuts. 11. Connect the stabilizer link to the damper and loosely install the flange nut. Page 6 of 7 12. Tighten the flange nut while holding the joint pin with the hex wrench to 79 N·m (58 lb-ft). 13. Tighten the flange nuts on top of the damper to (without damper mounting washer type) 69 N·m (51 lb-ft) (with damper mounting washer type) 59 N·m (44 lb-ft). 14. Tighten the damper pinch bolts while holding the flange nuts to 175 N·m (125 lb-ft). 15. Install the brake hose bracket to the damper and tighten the bolt to 21 N·m (15 lb-ft). 16. Install the wire guide rubber and the clip to the damper. 17. Clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc and the inside of the wheel, then install the front wheel. 18. Repeat steps 1-17 for the right front. 19. Check the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. END Page 7 of 7
