Issue
Cummins® Part Number 4921483 intake manifold temperature sensors with a date code
between 23 Jan 2014 and 01 May 2014 exhibit a high rate of early life failure causing Fault
Codes 155 and/or 2964 to become active.
Sensor date codes are in YDDDS format as shown below in Figure 1. Affected sensors have a
date code between 4023x and 4121x including those two dates, where “x” represents any shift
A, B, or C.

Screening and certification of Cummins® Part Number 4921483 intake manifold temperature
sensors within the affected range began 01 May 2014. Certified parts are marked with two
dark-colored dots on the sensor connector body as shown below in Figure 2. On unpainted
parts, this marking can easily be identified. On painted engines, however, it may be necessary
to carefully remove the paint from this area of the sensor to inspect for certification
marking. Other markings in other locations do not indicate a certified sensor.

Verification
If Fault Codes 155 and/or 2964 are logged:
z

Verify that the sensor date code is between 23 Jan 2014 and 01 May 2014.
Verify that the sensor is not a certified part.
Resolution
Replace the intake manifold temperature sensor with either a certified part identified by two
dark-colored dots marked on the sensor body as shown in Figure 2, or a part produced with a
date code later than 01 May 2014 (4121x where “x” represents any shift A, B, or C).
