Issue
Turbocharger speed sensors have been found to melt on heavy hybrid vehicles when
operating at higher vehicle speeds. The root cause of the issue is excessive radiated heat due
to operation at full load rated speed for extended periods of time.
This issue is specific to heavy hybrid buses. The maximum speed that the vehicle is capable of
reaching is lower than governed speed, leading to operation at full load at rated speed when
on open roads.
Resolution
When a turbocharger speed sensor replacement is required do the following:
For hybrid buses with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 12 metric tons, use the new

turbocharger speed sensor fitted with the heat reflective wrap.
For all other vehicles, use the existing part inventory on the shelf before ordering the new
turbocharger speed sensor.
Description of Change
The new turbocharger speed sensor is fitted with a heat reflective wrap to protect the material
surrounding the sensor electronics.
