CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: The rearmost section (in front of the rear wheel) of the rocker panel(s) may show signs of stone chipping.
Cause: This may be caused by stones, from the front wheels, contacting the rocker panel.
NOTE: This Service Instruction is not applicable to the XE (X760) 'R­SPORT' or 'S' variants.
NOTE: This Service Instruction may not be submitted as a Warranty claim and is customer pay only.
Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:
Equipment Required
The following equipment is required to perform this Service Instruction.
Suitable powder­free (nitrile) gloves
Mist spray bottle
Equal quantities of IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and de­ionized water
Rocker panel protection kit film smoother ­ suggest 3M PA1 applicator wrapped in a soft fine nylon or lycra (as shown in
Step 7)
Micro fiber cloth
WARNING: Suitable powder free (nitrile) gloves must be used when carrying out this Service Instruction.
CAUTION: When unrolling the rocker panel protection kit, do not reverse roll.
CAUTION: When carrying out this Service Instruction, make sure that all traces of polish, grease, etc., are
removed (as shown in Step 2).
CAUTION: This Service Instruction must be carried with ambient and vehicle body temperatures between 16­
25° C.
CAUTION: Film must be applied right first time. Peeling back the film once it has adhered may create
cosmetically unacceptable lines, necessitating a new film.
CAUTION: Cleanliness is critical; dirt under the film may be visible.
CAUTION: Once applied, it is recommended that the film is checked 1­2 hours after application to ensure
correct adhesion, particularly around edges and detailed cut outs.
CAUTION: Vehicle should not be washed for 72 hours following application.
1. Mix the isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water (50­50) solution in the mist spray bottle.

Clean the areas of paintwork using the IPA and water
solution, making sure all grease and dirt is removed.

Spray the solution onto the area of paintwork as shown.
4.
CAUTION: Avoid touching the adhesive when dry
as this will leave a fingerprint in the film. Tip: spray
some solution onto your fore finger and thumb when
peeling off the backing paper.
NOTE: Left­hand rocker panel shown; right­hand
rocker panel similar.
Peel back the part from the sheet while continuously
spraying the solution onto the adhesive side of the film,
making sure the adhesive is fully saturated.
5.
CAUTION: Do not go over the radius or the film may lift at the edge.
NOTE: Left­hand rocker panel shown; right­hand rocker panel similar.
Gently lay the film onto the panel aligning the top corner.
The film should be 2mm in from the radius of the vertical edge and 2mm down from the radius of the top edge.

CAUTION: Take care not to trap any air or fluid as
this will be visible particularly on dark vehicles.
NOTE: Left­hand rocker panel shown; right­hand
rocker panel similar.
Once the positioning on the panel is correct, spray additional
solution on to the face of the film; use a suitable rocker
panel protection kit film smoother to follow the pattern of
strokes as shown, using suitable pressure to remove any
fluid and air bubbles to secure the film into place.
Repeated strokes will be required where the film rolls
under the rocker panel.
7.
NOTE: Some fluid residue that cannot be
removed; this is normal.

Carefully work the solution out of the recess created by the
jacking locator.

Wrap the film around the door closure inner edge using
the cloth.
9.

10. Repeat Steps 2­9 to the right­hand rocker panel.
