3.2L - ILLUMINATED MIL - DTC P24A5 - LOW TIME IN SERVICE - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 13-NOV-2016 TSB 17-0009 FORD: 2016-2017 Transit ISSUE Some 2016-2017 Transit vehicles with low mileage equipped with a 3.2L engine and built on or before 13-Nov-2016 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P24A5 at a low time in service approximately 8,000 Km (5,000 miles) with or without P2457. This may be due to the vehicle being built with an EGR cooler that is not correct for the vehicle. ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC). Check for DTC. Is P24A5 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory with or without P2457? a. Yes - proceed to Step 2. b. No - this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics. 2. Use a mirror and inspect the right rear corner of the EGR cooler (behind the exhaust manifold) for the proper application. Does the EGR cooler have its bypass valve bell crank between the two outer mounting bolts and a curved plate edge?
