2010-13 MAZDA3 AND 2012-15 MAZDA5 - FUEL TANK IS DIFFICULT TO FILL
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010-13 Mazda3 (including Mazdaspeed3)
2012-15 Mazda5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1CW******176622 (produced before June 2, 2014)
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain that the fuel tank is difficult to fill up. This concern may be caused by improper
operation of the non-return valve in the fuel tank (temporarily stuck open). The production process of the fuel
tank has been improved to eliminate this concern.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify that there are no restrictions of evaporative emission system hoses.
• If there is a restriction, this Service Information is not applicable.
• If there is no restriction, go to next step.
2. Replace the fuel tank with a modified one. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 0114.
• For Mazda3: FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
• For Mazdaspeed3: FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
• For Mazda5: FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
3. Verify repair by filling the fuel tank and making sure that the fuel pump nozzle shuts off automatically when
tank is full.
