SECTION: 419-00 Remote Function Actuator 'Locks Up' And Requires Hard Reset AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE: Discovery Sport (LC) Model Year: 2015-2016 VIN: 516834-590668 Assembly Halewood Plant: MARKETS: NAS CONDITION SUMMARY: Situation: The passive unlock/lock function is inoperative and the engine does not start. When this occurs, the use of the emergency key blade is necessary to unlock the vehicle and the emergency start process must be followed for the engine to start . .L )NOTE: The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) may also be referred to as Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM). ALL vehicle keys are required prior to replacing the RFA. Cause: This may be caused because the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) can enter a locked state and will not communicate on the medium speed bus, preventing communication with the Body Control Module (BCM). The new software release will detect the locked state and automatically re-establish communications between the modules. Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction below. PARTS: L )NOTE: The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) may also be referred to as Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM). SERVICE INSTRUCTION: 1. Remove the Loadspace Trim Panel (see TOPix Workshop Manual section 501-05: Interior Trim and Ornamentation - Loadspace Trim Panel). 2. Remove the lelt-hand Rear Quarter Trim Panel (see TOPix Workshop Manual section 501-05). 3. Remove the fuse box covers. • Remove the fixings. 4. Remove the cove~ • Remove the fixings. 5. ,~ NOTE: The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) may also be referred to as Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM). Install the RFA. • Install the connectors. • Install the fixings. • Torque: 9Nm 7. Install the fuse box covers. • Install the fixings. • Torque: 9Nm 9. Install the Rear Quarter Trim Panel (see TOPix Workshop Manual section 501-05). 10. Install the Loadspace Trim Panel (see TOPix Workshop Manual section 501-05: Interior Trim and Ornamentation - Loadspace Trim Panel). & .C AUTION: A Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis / module programming. & cAUTION: Ensure all ignition ON/OFF requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle. -~ NOTE: The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool must be loaded with DVD146.03 v.244 or later. ~ NOTE: The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool must be activated for connectivity with Jaguar Land Rover Calibration and As-Built file servers, and have a live internet connection. http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/service/document/671834 8/3/2016 Page 6 of 6 6 NOTE: SDD will prompt the user to download one or more files during this procedure on every vehicle attempted, all prompts to perform a file download MUST be executed. 11. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle battery. 12. Turn ignition ON (engine not running). 13. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool to the vehicle and begin a new session. 14. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing the diagnostic tool to read the VIN, identify the vehicle, and initiating the data collect sequence. 15. Select Service Functions from the Session Type screen. • Allow the data collection process to complete. 16. Select the Recommendations tab. 17. Select Run to perform the Configure new module - Keyless vehicle module option. 18. When prompted to download files, the download prompts must not be cancelled. 19. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task, ensuring all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are cleared. 20. When all tasks are complete, select the Session tab and then select the Close Session option. 21.
