2009 - 2017 Tiguan - Vibration Noise When Operating Rear
Window
A vibration or rumbling noise which is heard when operating the rear window can be caused by a window
regulator sub-frame that was not properly torqued. An incorrect torque sequence or specification, can
cause the upper regulator roller to become pinched by the regulator rail. This prevents the wheel from
turning properly during the regulator operation. The regulator cable sliding across the stationary wheel
causes the vibration/noise. If this occurs, the regulator will need to be replaced.
It is crucial that the torque sequence outlined in ELSA is followed to prevent damaging the window
regulator. As outlined below, once the regulator is aligned in the door opening with the alignment pins -7-.
Insert all of the bolts, but do not torque. Torque the bolts -6- nearest the alignment pins -7- first to 8 Nm.
Torque the remaining bolts surrounding the sub-frame -arrows- in any desired sequence to 8 Nm. Finally,
torque the upper bolt for the regulator rail -12- to 8 Nm.
