(g)HONDA Tech Line Summary Article March 2017 ATS 161105 Version 2 Information Display Switches to Engine Oil Life by Itself AFFECTED VEHICLES 2014-16 Odyssey SE, EX, EX-L, EXL-R (RES), and EXL-N (Navigation) EDITOR'S NOTE: This article replaces the one posted in November 2016 to extend the article's shelf life. The issue(s) covered are still being addressed. We're getting reports of the information display switching from the selected display to engine oil life by itself. So far, our investigation hasn't shown any mechanical or electrical problems, so, to avoid unneeded troubleshooting and repair, a little dealer/customer education may be in order. The information display lets you select from a variety of displays: odometer, trip meter, instant fuel economy, average fuel economy, engine oil life, range, or outside temperature. The selected display is kept and appears each time you turn the ignition to ON. There are a couple of cases, though, where it's a normal operating characteristic for the information display to automatically switch to engine oil life. Here's when it does: • Engine Oil Life Is Less Than 15%: When the engine oil life drops below 15%, the Maintenance Minder™ messages appear in the information display each time you turn the ignition to ON. The intent of this is to let you know when to change the engine oil or bring the vehicle in for indicated maintenance services. • Smart Entry Remote Reminder: If you take the smart entry remote out of the vehicle with the ignition turned to ON and the driver's door closed, you'll hear beeping and see a NO KEY message on the information display to remind you the remote is outside the vehicle. When the message clears, the information display automatically switches to engine oil life. So, if you get a vehicle in for this issue, keep this in mind before you start any troubleshooting. And be sure to share this info with the service advisors so they can inform their customers. © 2017 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. - All Rights Reserved Page 1 of 1
