Bentley illuminated Sill Trim Strip, back light is defective.
Replacement Sill Trim Strip, back light is defective.
Technical background
A number of illuminated Sill Trim Strips have been manufactured with incorrectly wired ribbon cable connectors, vehicles fitted with these parts have
had harness connectors reconfigured to enable illumination.
Replacement illuminated SillTrim Strips willbe supplied with correctly wired ribbon cable connectors, corrective action may therefore be required when
installing new parts to affected vehicles.
Production change
Introduction of illuminated Sill Trim Strips with correctly wired ribbon cable connectors.
Measure
Note: Only carry out the following procedure at the position of the replacement illuminated Sill Trim Strip.
Electrical power to Sill Trim Strips may automatically switch off after approximately twenty minutes, cycling the main lighting switch
willrestore the power supply – figure 1.

Work
Remove the affected Sill Trim Strip, refer to Repair Group 70 – Trim, noise insulation – Floor trim – Inner tread plates – To remove and fit.
Note: The SillTrim Strip connector may be located under the SillTrim Strip substrate, reposition the carpet to aid removal – figure 2.

Fold back the foam cover and disconnect the electrical connector.
Using a suitable tester, measure the voltage at the harness connector, terminal numbers should be visible within the harness connector – figure 3.

Terminal 1 is Negative – wire colour Brown
Terminal 2 is “12” Volts Positive – wire colour Purple / Green
Note: Refer to Electronic Service Information System (ELSA PRO) to ensure current technical information is used.
If “12” volts is present at the connector but the wire colours are in the wrong cavities, continue with this document. If “12” Volts is not present,
determine the cause, then if required, carry out the following instructions.
Remove the harness connector cover “A” – figure 4.

Using terminal extraction tool VAS1978/29, release in turn each terminal securing latch, remove both wires from the connector – figure 5.

Ensure each terminal is in a serviceable condition, refit back into the connector noting the correct aperture is selected.
Aperture 1 is Negative– wire colour Brown
Aperture 2 is 12 Volts positive – wire colour Purple/Green
Refit the harness connector cover “A” – figure 4.
Refit the Sill Trim Strip and check correct functionality, refer to Repair Group 70 – Trim, noise insulation – Floor trim – Inner tread plates –
To remove and fit.
