Condition/Concern Vehicle has an SES lamp with a P0171 and P0174 set after the fuel tank was filled with E85 fuel Recommendation/Instructions If this is encountered check the ethanol content of the fuel with the J 44175 (Fuel Composition Tester). If the fuel tested over 10% alcohol, determine if the vehicle is equipped with RPO FHS, If not flush the fuel system and add E10 gas. If the vehicle is equipped with the RPO FHS follow normal diagnostic for the codes Please note: There was a change during the production of 2015 Full-Size SUVs, and with the beginning production of 2015 Full-Size Light-Duty Pickups, shifting from a standard E85 capability on all of these vehicles equipped with the L83, 5.3L V8, to an optional E85 capability, requiring selection of E85 capability through vehicles equipped with RPO code FHS. Addition Note: For SUV models, FHS is only available for fleet and government ordered vehicles; for LD Pickup, FHS is available for all orders. The default fuel capability is E10 gasoline, specified for vehicles equipped with RPO FHO. E85 flex-fuel capability is specified for vehicles equipped with RPO FHS Vehicles equipped with RPO FHO, E10 gasoline, will be equipped with a black fuel cap and will not be equipped with a flex-fuel sensor. Vehicles equipped with RPO FHS, E85 flex-fuel, will be equipped with a yellow fuel cap and will include a flex-fuel sensor. Note: Vehicles equipped with RPO FHO, E10 gasoline are certified for this fuel type and cannot be modified to allow use of E85 flex-fuel. Warranty Information The correction for this concern may be one of several repairs described above. For vehicles repaired under warranty, please use the appropriate warranty labor operation based on the actual cause and repair. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. 1 WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION 2
