Condition
Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:
•
Firm garage shifts, Park to Drive or Park to Reverse after the vehicle has be sitting for several hours
with the engine off.
•
A clunk noise that occurs as the engine starts or immediately after engine start.
•
An illuminated MIL where DTC P16F3 is found as an active or history DTC.
Correction
A revised calibration has been developed to address these concerns.
Update the transmission control module (TCM) using the Service Programming System (SPS) with the latest software available on TIS2WEB.
Service Procedure:
Important: Verify the battery voltage is more than 12 volts but less than 16 volts before proceeding with reprogramming. The battery must be fully charged
BEFORE reprogramming.
Important: During reprogramming, the battery voltage must be maintained within the proper range of 12-15.5 volts. CONNECT the approved Midtronics® PSC
550 Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool (EL-49642) to the vehicle or the GR8 (EL50313) in the power supply mode.
Important: After updating the transmission control module (TCM) complete K71 Transmission Control Module --- Setup to run the Service Fast Learn
procedure.
To program an existing transmission control module (TCM), perform the following procedure:

Install EL-49642 SPS programming support tool.

Access the Service Programming System (SPS) and follow the on-screen instructions.
3.
On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select K20 K71 Engine and Transmission Sequential Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
4.
After programming complete, on the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select K71 Transmission Control Module --- Setup (Only with RPO M5U) and
follow the on-screen instructions. This will complete Service Fast Learn.
5.
At the end of programming, choose the "Clear All DTCs."
