Bulletin No.: PIT5059A
Date: Nov-2012
Subject:
Roof Beacon Inoperative (Switch Disconnected)
Models:
2011-2013 Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban
2011-2013 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
With Roof Beacon Light (RPO VYU or TRW)
This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIT5059.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
Starting with the 2011 models the roof beacon switch will be left disconnected from the assembly plant. This is to eliminate the risk of a dead battery if the
switch is accidentally left on with the ignition key off.
Additional Info:
If the beacon switch was connected and a driver inadvertently pressed the roof beacon switch on a truck without a roof beacon light installed, it may be difficult
for them to know the switch is on. If the ignition is turned off and the beacon switch is left on, a battery draw (140-180 Ma) will occur, because the roof beacon
relay is still energized.
Recommendation/Instructions
When a roof beacon light is added the switch will need to be connected, see picture below. This is not covered under warranty and should be part of adding the
roof beacon light.

2.

3.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the
remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may
occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools,
safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that
your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
