Condition/Concern Some customers may comment about an engine misfire and check engine light with any or all cylinder misfires only on deceleration. Depending on the model year and engine RPO configuration, this may be the result of: – Debris in the serpentine belt or balancer pulley causing a jump and false misfire – Worn engine mounts causing a ground out concern and false misfire. Note: Do not confuse this with normal roughness and a few random misfire counts that are normal on these engines at the same speeds in park or neutral Recommendation/Instructions If this concern is encountered: 1 – Remove the accessory drive belt and drive or brake stall at signature RPM. If the concern is gone inspect for debris in the belt or pulleys causing a jump and false misfires – Use engine lift to unload the engine mounts and brake stall at signature RPM. If concern is gone then inspect for a ground out concern with the mounts causing false misfires. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION 2
