Bulletin No.: PIP5339 Date: Nov-2015 Subject: Disabling Or Removing CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) Fuel Systems Models: 1998-2004 Chevrolet Cavalier 1998-2005 Chevrolet Express 1998-2005 GMC Savana 1998-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1998-2016 GMC Sierra 2015-2016 Chevrolet Impala Equipped with Bi-Fuel CNG System The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern A dealer may receive a customer request to remove or disable the Bi-Fuel CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) system. Recommendation/Instructions General Motors does not condone the removal of the original equipped CNG systems. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover damage caused as the result of any of the following: Damage Due to Accidents, Misuse, or Alterations: Alteration, modification or tampering to the vehicle including, but not limited to the body, chassis, powertrain, driveline, or components - after final assembly by GM. Service Agents modifying new vehicles and installing equipment, parts, and accessories obtained from sources not authorized by GM are responsible for complying with the regulations set forth by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. GMTAC (GM Technical Assistance) will not have or supply information on how to remove or disable a CNG system. GMTAC does not have specifications or information on how the vehicle will perform when the CNG fuel system is removed. GM Technical Assistance will continue to supply information on how to diagnose and repair a properly installed original equipment system. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION 1
