When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns. Description: On certain 2017 Santa Fe (NC) vehicles, the body seam sealant on the front side members may not have been correctly applied during vehicle assembly resulting in potential water intrusion into the floorboard of the vehicle. This bulletin describes the procedure to repair the seam on the front side members and add sealant in the appropriate locations. TSB #: 17-01-053 Page 2 of 13 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: SANTA FE (NC) FRONT CABIN WATER INTRUSION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2G) Service Procedure: Water Intrusion Inspection: 1. The service procedure is based on the passenger side. Driver side procedure is similar to the passenger side. A Using a trim tool, open the front door and remove the door scuff trim (A) . 2. Remove the front weather strip by gently pulling it (B). B 3. Remove the cowl side trim (C) using a plastic trim tool. C TSB #: 17-01-053 Page 3 of 13 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 3a. SANTA FE (NC) FRONT CABIN WATER INTRUSION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2G) To inspect the driver side floorboard, remove the hood latch release handle (D). NOTICE Hood latch release handle removal is applicable to driver side repair only. 4. D Set aside the floor carpet (E) as shown to secure the work space. Using a hose, spray water directly on the panel opening between the hood, lower pillar and fender for approximately 30 seconds. NOTICE Service procedure shown is on the driver side of the vehicle. Service procedure for the passenger is the same as the driver side. TSB #: 17-01-053 Page 5 of 13 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 7. SANTA FE (NC) FRONT CABIN WATER INTRUSION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2G) Check for water intrusion onto the front floor groove (G). Wait for 2~3 minutes after spraying the water. If no water is detected in the floorboard or the isolation pad, service procedure is complete. Assemble the parts in reverse order of removal. G Use Op Code 70C044R3 for inspection only. If water is detected on the floorboard or the isolation pad, follow the seam sealant rework procedure as described below. Seam Sealer Rework: 1. Rotate the front wheel/tire in inboard and outboard directions to gain accessibility to the wheel guard fasteners. Note: Removal of front wheel(s) can be considered to gain better accessibility to the wheel guard clips. 2. Loosen the driver/passenger side front wheel guard mounting clips and screws (H). Check the sealant (K) on the weld seam on the fender apron upper (L) and front member side (M). M K 50mm L 6. Using a flathead screwdriver, remove the sealant (K) about 50mm from fender apron upper side to lower side. Remove 10mm of sealant (N) between the fender apron upper side (L) and front member side (M) using a thin flathead screwdriver (P). M N L TSB #: 17-01-053 P Page 9 of 13 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 8. SANTA FE (NC) FRONT CABIN WATER INTRUSION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2G) Insert the flat screwdriver (P) to pry open about 5mm of the panel opening for seam sealer application. P NOTICE Do not pry open the panels more than 5mm. Excessive gaps may become harder to seal and may result in water intrusion into the cabin. 5mm TSB #: 17-01-053 Page 10 of 13 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 9. SANTA FE (NC) FRONT CABIN WATER INTRUSION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2G) Insert the sealant nozzle (Q) between the fender apron upper side and front member side. Apply the sealant to fully seam the panel opening. Q NOTICE Apply the sealant thoroughly inside the panel gap until the sealant can fill the outside surface of the panel. Gaps and voids in the sealer path will result in water leaks and if the condition exists, sealant application procedure must be performed again. 12. Apply the sealant to outside of the seam as shown. After 20 minutes, perform the water spray test noted on page 6 (step 6) to ensure sealant coverage rework is successful. 14. Assemble all parts in reverse order of removal. Perform service procedure on the other side if applicable. Once both driver and passenger sides are inspected and sealant reworked (if applicable), service procedure is now complete.
