Some 2016 – 2017 model year Tacoma vehicles, after being parked for an extended period of
time in inclement winter weather, may exhibit an intermittent or abnormal windshield wiper
operation when initially turned on due to snow or sleet accumulation under the cowl louver.
Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Repair Procedure
Disassembly
1. Confirm excess snow or sleet accumulation under the cowl louver panel.
Is there excess snow or sleet accumulation under the cowl louver panel?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Remove the LH front wiper arm head cap by
disengaging the three claws.

3. Remove the nut, windshield wiper arm, and
LH blade assembly.

4. Remove the RH front wiper arm head cap.
HINT

5. Remove the RH windshield wiper arm and blade assembly.

6. Remove the LH front fender upper protector.

3. Install the RH front fender upper protector.
HINT
Use the same procedure for the LH side.
4. Install the windshield wiper arm and
blade assemblies.
A. When reusing the windshield wiper
arm and blade assembly:

(1) Clean the wiper arm serrations to
remove ANY burrs, dirt, etc.

NOTICE
Do NOT grind down the wiper
arm serrations.
(2) Clean the wiper pivot serrations
with a wire brush.

Do NOT grind down the wiper
pivot serrations.

(3) Operate the front wiper motor and
then stop the front wiper motor in
the automatic stop (Park) position.

B. Install the windshield wiper arm and
LH blade assembly to the matchmark
position with the nut as shown.

Torque: 22 N*m (224 kgf*cm, 16 ft*lbf)
HINT

Hold the windshield wiper arm and
LH blade assembly by hand while
tightening the nut.

C. Install the windshield wiper arm and RH
blade assembly to the matchmark
position with the nut as shown.

HINT
Hold the windshield wiper arm and
RH blade assembly by hand while
tightening the nut.

D. Operate the front wipers while spraying washer fluid on the windshield glass. Make sure
that the front wipers function properly and there is no interference with the vehicle body.
E. Check the automatic stop (Park) position after lifting the wiper blades two times.
5. Engage the three claws to install the LH front wiper arm head cap.
HINT
Use the same procedure for the RH side.
