SERVICE ACTION: DELTA GARNISH AND FRONT BUMPER
GAP/WIND NOISE ADJUSTMENT (SA248)
 NOTICE
This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised
sections of this bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area.
This bulletin provides the information for applying soundproof padding to the Delta Garnish on
2017MY Sportage (QL) vehicles produced from December 10, 2015 through October 14, 2016, and
to inspect the front bumper and, if necessary, apply soundproof padding on some 2017MY
Sportage (QL) vehicles produced from July 8, 2016 through August 30, 2016. Kia is requesting the
completion of this Service Action on all affected vehicles in dealer stock, prior to delivery. Before
conducting the procedure, verify the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
Vehicles will be identified in WebDCS as requiring either SA248A/SA248AI and/or SA248B
service action components completed.

BUMPER GAP/WIND NOISE ADJUSTMENT (SA248)
 NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed
during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the
warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage>
Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service
Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall>
Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.
This issue number is SA248.
Service Procedure:
Soundproof Padding Application to the LH Delta Garnish (SA248A or SA248AI)
1.
Remove the Delta Garnish (A) using a
suitable trim tool to avoid damaging
the surrounding area.
 NOTICE
Use a non-marring trim removal
tool (Such as Snap-on® Part
Number PBN5 or equivalent).
 NOTICE
Perform this procedure only for
the LH side not the RH side.
Take care not to damage the
part and scratch the paint when
removing the Delta Garnish.

Ensure the contact surface on garnish
is clean, and then apply the
soundproof padding to the lower part
of the LH Delta Garnish as shown in
figure (B).

Re-install the Delta Garnish making
sure it is properly seated and secured.
 NOTICE
Install
the
Delta
Garnish
carefully so that the soundproof
padding is properly positioned
and NOT visible from the
outside.
Confirm proper fit between
Delta Garnish and body, and
verify that the surrounding
surface area is clean of residue
and prints.

2016 through August 30, 2016 only
(identified as SA248B), inspect the
LH/RH (A) front bumper to fender joint
areas for proper fitment or gaps.
Apply soundproof padding if poor
fitment or gaps are found (B).

If the bumper fitment is found to
be OK, no further action is
required.
Close the repair.

Remove the screws and fasteners to
disassemble the bumper.

Disassemble the front bumper to the
fender joint as shown in figure (B).
Ensure the contact surfaces are
clean, and then apply the soundproof
padding as shown in figure (C).

Take care not to damage the
bumper panel and guide pin
when
disassembling
the
bumper.

Install all the screws and fasteners in
the reverse order of removal.
 NOTICE
Re-install the bumper carefully
so that the soundproof padding
is properly positioned and NOT
visible from the outside.
Confirm proper fit between the
bumper and body, and verify
that the surrounding surface
area is clean of residue and
prints.
